Among my many Google travels, I ran across this tidbit. Could it be of use?

Maybe we shoud tackle your no-video problem first. The fact that coax in works but no other connection does indicates that you're using the wrong tuner on the PVR 500. Try setting all of this up with the other tuner.

According to this previous post, the reason I'm not getting any video is because I didn't have an IR Blaster in place:
Like I said, you have a signal running into a tuner that in fact, does not need to be tuned (It's just a normal video signal... Think of the different inputs on your tv... Do you ever change a channel on your tv? No, you use the STB to do that, and it displays on your tv, that is all your tv EVER does when using an STB, it is completely passive and at the whim of said STB). You need an IR blaster to change the channel on the STB. All you have right now, is picture from the STB. That picture will always be on channel three in this current set up, any other channel on your TUNER will always be blank. If you change the channel on the STB, your channel three (The TUNER's that is) will display whatever you changed to on the stb, notice that it then behaves exactly as your tv does, passively displaying video. You cannot change the channel on your tuner and expect it to magically get the signal to your STB to do the actual channel changing. You need an IR blaster. One should have come with the pvr 500. You need to place that IR blaster in front of the IR port on your STB so that GBPVR can send the correct channel changing signal to your STB and change the channel that way. Are you saying that the video problem is un-related? As a side note, I have verified the card is capable of receiving video. I can get video on both the coax and S-video connections using Hauppauge's Wintv2000 app.

Yes, I'm saying that your video problem is unrelated.
The IR blaster is not required for the STB to actually output video. You should still be getting a picture without the IR blaster configured. If you turn on your STB and set it to a specific channel manually (with its remote), do you get a picture in GBPVR? If not, the capture source is not set properly. Could you check this and report back?

HTPCGB Wrote:Yes, I'm saying that your video problem is unrelated. Hmmm. Ok, HTPCGB, I'm with you. I have turned on the STB and put it on several different Directv channels, but none give me any video or sound. The only way I was able to get any video was to configure the capture source to âFixed-Channel, External Tunerâ and set the fixed channel to 3. I was able to get Phenomenonal sound, but a horrible unreadable picture (think of the picture you get on a tv with bad antenna positioning.) I'm open to anything else you recommend.

As an extra note, I configured the capture source according to the hauppauge instructions on the GBPVR Wiki. Here is the link I used:

How are your wires connected?
You should have Scart or video out (NOT RF!) running to the composite in on your 500.

Ok, here's what I'll have you do. (I'm assuming that you are using the S-Video input)
-delete your current capture sources -Download and run DeviceTypeCheck: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FAQ/DeviceTypeCheck -Set up two capture sources (one will be a PVR 500 with FM and the other will just be a PVR 500) according to what DeviceTypeCheck tells you to do -Select the first capture source in the capture source list, select S-Video as the signal source, power up the STB and see if you get a signal in GBPVR -If it doesn't work: change the first capture source's signal source to S-Video2, check for video -If it still doesn't work, delete the first capture source and repeat the previous two steps on the second capture source I apologize for my repeated use of the word "source" but this should find the proper configuration for your tuner. Note: Leave the channel changer set to "no channel changer required" until you have a video signal to work with.

HTPCGB Wrote:Ok, here's what I'll have you do. (I'm assuming that you are using the S-Video input) Ok HTPCGB, I'll try that when I get home tonight (it can't come fast enough). I recall using the devtypechk utility before, but I did not delete the original sources, and I never tried the no channel changer option as you mentioned. Hopefully that does the trick!!

Well HTPCGB, I did what you said and I finally have video!! Looking back on my previous config, I noticed that the video did not come up until I only had one capture source defined, meaning once I deleted the second capture source VOILA!!!. The GBPVR Wiki instructs to setup 2 capture sources for the PVR 500. In the near future (probably by next week) I'm sure I'll want the additional capture source to record 2 different channels, but now I've got to work on the USB-UIRT issue. I wanted to extend my thanks for everyones help and patience up to this point! |
