Why are you converting files to MPEG2 when GBPVR records directly to MPEG2? The MediaMVP plays MPEG2 without a hitch, so why does it have to be transcoded from MPEG2 (after converting it to MPEG2 for whatever reason)? I think I must be missing something. I've also downloaded DivX versions of TV shows that I missed recording with GBPVR for one reason or another, and they've played just fine via the MVP.

The GBPVR interface and live TV via the MVP makes it difficult to call it inferior. Honestly, my MediaMVPs have been the most stable part of my GBPVR system lately! Of course, my feelings for the MVP could also spurred by the fact that 5 out of the 6 MVPs that I purchased were only $39 on closeout at RadioShack... Wink

I was talking about DVDs. The MVP cannot play a VOB or an ISO directly. It has to be converted to MPG2. I have been trying with the help of many talented people on this site to get a "DECENT" conversion of a DVD to mpg. It always resuls in Fwd-Rew (TimeStamps) problems, Video out of Synch, bad quality. Just way too many problems until I finally realized that the tools are doing a good job of the conversion, but the Hardware on the MVP is just not up to the task. What is worst, the Hauppauge people will not do anything about it neither.

I ended up ditching the MVP.

So, basically, your XBox is a replacement for the MVP, and because it has a DVD drive built in to it, you're able to play DVDs, VCDs, etc. Am I getting that right?

If so, that's not really fair to compare the MVP to your modified XBox -- because the MVP doesn't have the internal DVD drive. Wouldn't a better solution (and comparison) be to put your HTPC directly on your TV and it will play any type of DVD/CD that you put into it, too.

Am I missing something? I think I must still be missing something. Sorry if I'm being thick... Wink

GBPVR system info intentionally left blank because I'm personally
insulted that you can't remember it from previous signatures.

Its not a replacement more another way - ie all the mods you guys do have to be done via Python scripts and even then they are not as good.

I love using XBMC. I just have mapped drives to my GBPVR box for playing files.

I am talking about playing a dvd that is stored on another computer on the network as an ISO file or a VOB set. The XBOX does have a DVD player but when I compare both units I am talking about streaming from the network with full Menu support. What is even better XBOX does not need any special software to run on the server. No need to start MVP Media servers or wait for the infamous "Now contacting servers" or "Lost connection with media server". It is a truly awesome gadget.

Sorry Sub, but I need to disagree with you on this. XBMC is certainly an option for a client, albeit a limited one as of now. I have two MVP's, and just setup XBMC last night. There is no comparison in terms of responsiveness and WAF. That said, it's also not "GBPVR aware" and therefore lacks the integration that the MVP enjoys. While I have no intention of getting rid of my MVP's, I'd certainly buy another XBOX before I'd buy another MVP.

Of course, you have obligation to support this setup, but you can't also deny that it exists as a viable option.

Personally, I'd like to bond with the XBMC users here so we can improve the integration: mission 1 being able to view recorded show metadata. (Title, Description, Date, etc.)

Agreed that the support forum isn't the place for this.

I dont know exactly what you're disagreeing with me about. I think you should go and re-read my comments in this thread.

Let me summarize for you: fvfv asked if I was intending to write an xbox client for GB-PVR. I said no I wasnt planning to. He asked why. I listed reasons being previous gen, no legal SDK access. That was pretty much it. What exactly didnt you agree with? What was I wrong about?

What denying? I in no way said the xbox/xbmc wasnt good at what it does. I also didnt say the MVP was better or anything. I just said I have no plans to write a client for the xbox.

I am a computer programmer , although my time to devote to this project is extremely limited.

I hate just about anything that deals with .Net or anything Microsoft does or sells  . Thank god the XBOX does not need or run on .net.

I would like to create some sort of XBOX-GBPVR interface , via python scripts.

Sub already provides some sort of API to GBPVR, or else the WebStreamer plugin would not exist. My goals is to create a plugin that interfaces with the EPG and can start recordings from the EPG or manual recordings. I do not think that watching LiveTV is doable as there is nothing out there that does LiveTV with the XBOX.

Now, if Sub absolutely objects to this, I will step aside and abandon the initiative.
