It basically takes the good aspects of a Wiki (a non-linear information archive that can be quickly edited and items can be easily interconnected/searched) and a blog (a sequential journal) and combines them. There are all kinds of plugins that add functionality.

What really makes this cool is all this "software" functionality is contained in a single HTML file.

That's it.

No program to install on your computer, nothing needed beyond a browser to make it work. All the functionality is provided through embedded javascript, CSS, etc. in the HTML file. All you need is that single file which contains both the information you add to it and all the features of the "software". You can put that single HTML file on a USB drive, in your webspace, email it to yourself, etc.

Open source, browser based, highly customizable, strong development community, etc. means it is very web 2.0 but I think it represents a fascinating shift in the way a problem can be solved through software.

An "information archive" is something I've sought and used for as long as I can remember but with each type of solution I've used over the years there was something left to desire. This so far is blowing everything else out of the water (and I've tried a lot of different things). I've spent most of today consolidating my stuff from a variety of sources and I'm pretty impressed so far despite only having scratched the surface of its capabilities.
