I have a MVP that when I connect to the LAN comes up with Little or no Connection. I am trying to use a direct connection with a crossover cable.
I know it isn't the Lan as I bought a new one in cae the old one wasn't working. From trying to get it set up I think I have messed thing up a bit. I think i need to know how to set up the netwirk connection to it some how. please help as I would like to get the PVR set up in the living room soon.

When you use a cross-cable you need a dhcp-server to assign an ip-number to the mvp. I think you can also use the Hauppauge MVP-software to do that. start with the hauppauge sw, when that works, disable the hauppauge services and start gbpvr, now it should work. make sure you have set 1 MVP-server to start in gbpvr-config.

I have looked at the connection by double click the LAN and then support tab and it says "Automatic private address". I don't know if this means DHCP. Through furthe rinvestigation I have found that to set the IP to 192.168.1.1 I have set this and it now says configed manually. I am now seemingly getting packets sent and received. When I load the MVP software that I downloaded it says this is a beta version. It never seems to be able to get the interface after install. In programs I get Restart, Uninsall, Find media and one other I can't remember. Non of them seem to be the interface were you access the videos etc. This I think is what is now stopping GB-PVR from be able to use the remote. I have opened the gbpvr server applet and left it open and clicked the fix remote control and set the server to 1. I do not no what is still wrong and I am tearing my hair out trying different things. I am still trying to set it up on a pc monitor rather than using the SCART cable at the moment. Is this what is wrong

I suggest you give some more explication about your system. What kind of computer, networkcard, router, where did you see the ip-adres, etc etc.
To me it seems like you are using a router. If so why don't you connect your mvp to the router (with a straight cable) and go from there.
Did you read up the subject on the wiki.

good luck.

the motherboard is Imperial IM845GL with on board LAN, I have bought another second hand network card of ebay make unknown to see if it was the onboard lAN that was faulty. Both give the same reply and settings. The CPU is Celeron 2.3GHz Memory is 500mb DDR. I am running Windows XP Pro with service pack 2. dotnet 1.1 installed. I do not have a router as I was try to set the system up as a PVR in the living room as a stand alone. This is the reason for using a direct connection with the crossover. The IP address came from a magazine called PC answers issue 156. I have order another crossover cable to see if it is that. I don't think it is as I have tried to set up my broadband on the PVR PC but with the same little or no connection reply.
I hope this is the info you require if not then please let me know. Also can I take take this opportunity to Thank you for your time trying to help somebody that is probably now trying your patience.

GBPVR requires dotnet 2.0, so I'm quite surprised you got anywhere at all with 1.1?
I'm not always right

You should be using DHCP not issuing IPs yourself

I trust you have followed all the instructions on the wiki

I think this is the preoblem that I do not know how to get the LAN to network on DHCP. I have run the MVP software and got nothing. The main interface will not load.

Ok, you'll need to run a DHCP server to assign the IPs (tftp32 supports this and has been recommended by others)

I use tftpd32 as a DPCH server, set up to supply Ip adress only on the interface connected with a crossover cable to the MVP. This interface has a static IP, and tftpd32 gives the MVP a IP address from a pool with the size of 1. The rest of the network is running static IP, something that I will change as soon as I have time. One thing that I think is important is that the MVP should be turned on before Windoz boots, atleast in my setup starting the MVP after windows does not work.
