@FV, since the XBOX has a web browser, I figured that the web interface of GBPVR would provide many features without reinventing the wheel. That said, I haven't used the browser yet...
Before we go any further, we should start a new topic in another forum (General Disc. or Developers)

I was just saying it wasnt something I intended to do myself. You'd probably be best off looking at the Software MVP Client source code that is posted here somewhere, or MVallevand's emulator source code (part of mvpmc project). It would be relatively easy to create the equivalent of an MVP client for the XBox. This would give you all the screens and plugins etc.

Sub, I am glad you feel this way.
Jtokach, I have not used the browser on the XBOX. I do not think is part of the XBMC app. It is probably an external app. It does sound like an easy way to at least record things from the guide.

I'm still learning the possibilities of XBMC. Somewhere in there, you can setup links to apps, so it shouldn't be too hard to get the WWW browser installed and linked.
I don't mind firing up the MVP, sitting at the PC or using the web to add/manage recordings. Not knowing what I have and being able to determine one episode from another is my hang up. I suppose it's back to the file renaming script for now...

fvfv Wrote:Sub, I am glad you feel this way. The browser is called "linksboks" but does not work well with complex sites such as the EWA. I believe that it will be incorporated into XBMC at a future date (XBMC is at feature freeze now to stabilize the code for a move to version 2.x) so it may get better with time. There's a tv epg script at http://www.xbmcscripts.com that has the ability to hook in to external code calls (for example to call an url on the EWA), but the best you could hope for with that would be to set a manually recording. As sub says, probably the best way forward would be to develop an mvp client for the xbox. There's actually quite a lot of code out there for mvp clients to look to for examples or possible ports, I'd take a crack at it myself but sadly paying work doesn't leave much time free at the moment! I've been using XBMC to watch my GBPVR recordings from the outset, over a wireless network, a very nice setup. If you already have an Xbox, it's the way to go. Sorry I missed out on the $39 MVP deal.

Yes, the $39 MVP thing was great -- I was able to resell four of them on eBay for close to the price that Hauppauge is selling them for on their website, which paid for my PVR150, PVR500, and my first overpriced MVP. That greatly improved the WAF, as my GBPVR system upgrades were getting to be a bit of an annoyance to the wife's purse!
I'm still not really getting what the XBox does so much better than GBPVR and the well integrated MVP, but I'm a gadget geek at heart so I'm finding the conversation and plotting of future integration with GBPVR to be interesting! I will have to find this thread in a better forum here and follow it!
Chris
GBPVR system info intentionally left blank because I'm personally insulted that you can't remember it from previous signatures.

Things that the XBOX does that the MVP cannot do:
Does not need Server Software. Everything is streamed from peer to peer computers. Can play anything you throw at it, without convertion or transcoding: divx, xvid, mpg, mpg2, etc can play dvds with full menu support on its dvd drive, stored on its hard drive, over the network from DVD Folders (VIDEO_TS vobs), ISOs created by DVDshrink or DVDdecrypter; again without transcoding or converting. Full support for subtitles, either in External format (srt, sub, etc) or DVD subtitle streams. Full support for Closed Captions if they are saved on the MPG file (Hauppauge 250,350 recordings). With a push of a button, you can cycle Aspect Ratios to fit whatever TV resolution you need on the fly. With a push of a button, you can delay audio or subtitles on the fly. (A/V Synch) Can UpConvert 480i or 480p to 720p or 1020i to a High Def TV. Oh I almost forgot ..... Can play games.

Please let us know what forum this discussion moves to. I can't contribute much from the programming side, but I'd be willing to test stuff out...
