I recorded two shows and one of them was the ultimate fighter, the first show I watched later on with comskip enabled on the fly and everything worked perfectly. Then when I went to watch the ultimate fighter I noticed the intro sound was being choppy, but once the real show started the sound was fine.

Then after about 10 minutes the show I was recording went mute and a audio commerical about HIV/AIDS came on for a few minutes and then went away. I'm not sure what to think, but I went into the directory and played the Mpeg directly from explorer and the sound is there as well. I thought originally it had something to do with comskip, but it seems even watching the commericals the muted show with an audio commerical is still running.

I havne't watched the whole show, but seems like it happens another time. It's really making the show unrecordable to watch again. I'm not sure exactly even what's goign on, so it's why I'm posting here also.

Maybe a screw up on the part of the broadcaster? I have seen that a few times. Right in the middle of a show, and all of a sudden you hear something totally different than what you are watching. How long was the audio different for?

The first recording was on another channel and then the messed up recording was on spikeTV. In the hour show it happened twice and it really seemed on purpose. It seemed the channel went straight to mute and then two commericals back to back and then later on the show it happened again with two new commericals back to back. I only remember one was about tylenol and the other was about some HIV/Aids organization.

It honestly didn't seem like a mess up, because it happened twice and it was as if the show was muted, not two volumes fighting for the samething. I don't think it would make sense that I'm using comskip, because they wouldn't be able to detect that right?

Well I recorded one show at 9-10pm on spikeTV, I recorded another one right after it on spiketv from 10-11pm that I'll watch now and see if it happens. The audio though sounded a little chioppy in the introduction of the show, I'll see how the new show does also.

Comskip only analyzes the mpeg file, it doesn't modify it, so I doubt comskip is the cause.

Well after watching the second recording it did it again, maybe 3 times each, this is also commericals it's not like it's a television show each time or cutting into something else. There seems to be a start and a stop each time.
Hopefully it's a mess up at the station.

I am having a similar issue as bone. Seems like if two shows are recording back-to-back, the second show will have a "corrupt" section that seems to last ~2 to 5 minutes. It is around the same time as comskip starts to run on the second show (10-15 mins into an hour show)... The audio and video are scrambled and it skips to a seemingly random point in the recording or just spits me back out at the Recordings screen. Anyone else with similar issues or is this relatively isolated?

My work-around has been to "stagger" my recordings to where there are no two shows recording back-to-back. Often times this is not feasible, though...
Setup:
GBPVR 97.13 running on a 1.5 GHz P4. 512 RAM (all mobo can handle), 60 GB OS HD, 320 GB recordings/music HD, ATI TV wonder elite w/RWplus, ATI 9550 128MB.

I suppose a little more grunt wouldn't hurt, but I have seen lesser rigs without issues... Any help/ideas appreciated. Thanks to Sub and all contributors for a sweet diy pvr!

Never thought about it, but yeah the issue the only time I've seen it was two shows back to back. I downloaded the latest gbpvr and comskip as well

Maybe try switching off comskip-during-recording
AMD Athlon 64 3000, HDD: 80, 120, 200 GB, Hauppauge 350 + 150, MVP, Asus 6000L Laptop client, Asus X50sl client,
Fritz!box 7140 modem/router, GBPVR 1.3.7.

Just an FYI follow-up:

As I enjoy the commercial skip feature of comskip/GBPVR, I didn't want to turn it off. I throttled comskip back so it doesn't use as much CPU. All recordings are perfect! Added these lines to the comskip.ini :
play_nice_sleep=7
play_nice_start=900
play_nice_end=400
See the comskip manual for full explanation of options.
Bone, this may be worth a shot...

Thanks again to everyone who have worked on this pvr!
