File Renaming Utility: AddEpisode

yup, you got it. it only works on a file with the original gbpvr naming configuration. this is because it pulls some of the renaming info straight from the filename for efficiency. i never indended it to be a command line utility, but i may change that for the next release.

Sorry for eating up so much bandwidth, but I really like this tool and every time I play with it, I run into more questions...

Here is an example I was following from the wiki...

addepisode %1 “({episode}{or}{show} - {monthnameshort} {day} {yearshort})”

So I tried the following...

addepisode %1 “({episode}{or}{show} - {date})”

But this results in two bad things:

1) It fails and causes my postprocessing.bat to stop and not execute remaining commands.
2) Because I ran addepisode on a file (even though it didn't change the name), it won't try to change it again, so I'm stuck with the original name.

Again... What am I doing wrong?

addepisode %1 “({episode}{or}{show} - {date})”

{date} is not a valid format token. however, it should not be producing an error that stops the postprocessing.bat. can you tell me if addepisode is still running? (ctrl-alt-del to the windows task manager)

To be honest, I do not know. I came home today and my machine was off... I think we had a power outage... so I can't check. But before it shutdown, it recorded several shows. All of which had been successfully comskiped and comcleaned, but none of which had been renamed. I also run some cleanup commands after addepisode and none of those ran. I then verified this with my postprocessing.log because I echo the start and stop of each command in this log. addepisode started for each recording, but never stopped and the cleanup commands never got to run...

ok, it sounds like addepisode is stuck in a loop somewhere, and i will look into that problem. assuming you want to keep testing addepisode, change the invalid {date} token to something valid that is in the help file, and see if it hangs up the same way.

I am truly sorry... I just tried the following:

addepisode %1 “({yearshort}{month}{day} {episode}{or}{show})”

and ended up with this:

ôA Tale of Two Santas.mpg

What I wanted was this:

060917 Tale of Two Santas.mpg

OR (if there was no episode name) this:

060917 Futurama.mpg

I'm usually not this dense... :confused:

Eureka! I think I finally figured out the syntax... this does what I want it to:

addepisode %1 "({yearshort}{month}{day} {episode}{or}{yearshort}{month}{day} {show})"

yeh, the following text from the wiki uses the wrong quote (") characters

addepisode %1 “({yearshort}{month}{day} {episode}{or}{show})”

while i am glad you have worked it out on your own, that format is not how i intended the {or} to work. Addepisode should look at everything between the ( and the {or}, and see if it exists. If there is somethning there, it uses that, and throws out everything between the {or} and the ). For example, I would use the following line for what you want:

addepisode %1 "{yearshort}{month}{day} ({episode}{or}{show})"

it will add the date to every filename, and choose between the episode or show only. Notice though that i say it "should" work that way. Anyway, I'm glad it is working for you. Let me know if you have any more problems.
