Freecom DVB-T TV USB Stick

Finally I have been given the joy of this software with my MAY 2006 Freecom stick.

I don`t know how many of you actually may already have worked it out or have taken alot of info on this thread and put it all together and came up with the answer.

Just in case here goes.

Open BDA.ini. Find Freecom DVB type2. This is the section you want to edit.
Check the case of the letters DvB-T should be DVB-T.

Now open and view your Driver files that should tell you the device name and capture device name.e.g. USB Digital TV Device or something along those lines. Update the BDA.ini file to match those in the driver file and away you go.

As for searching for Channels I get served by Durris but had to do a full scan. Still got a few teething problems but I`ll work it all out with getting used to the software.

Hope that kinda clears it up for a few people that are still hanging on. If I can get it going I`m sure you guys can.

OK, here's how I did it.
Step 1. Remove the old Freecom software and drivers (skip this step if it's not already installed)

Un-install the software from Control Panel

Go into c:\windows\inf and delete the files dtv*.inf and then look at the files that begin oem*.inf. You can double click these files and open them in notepad, If you look at the last few of these files you'll see that one of them refers to the Freecom dtv, delete that file (it was oem16.inf on my system).

Now go into Device Manager and choose View/Show hidden devices. Go down to the 'Sound, video and game controllers' section and delete the 'digital tv device'.

Now physically REMOVE the Freecom device!

I have been following this topic, as I too have a Freecom USB stick. Just want to note for you ppl who can't uninstall your older WDM drivers in order to install the new ones that it is possible! (or at least it worked for me)

I basically had problems switching USB ports, as I did not have any others available at the moment, so I had to replace my Wireless adapter USB stick to the slot that I used to connect the DTV-B stick, and in the past I had somehow managed to make some weird settings there, which seemed to come back!! As a result, as soon as I switched ports, although the DVB-T stick installed correctly with the Yakumo BDA drivers (whereas it would NOT take the Yakumo drivers before), my internet access was messed up!!

By the way, not here: If you do not try what I suggest below, DEFINITELY connect your DVB-T stick to another port. Even if you remove the old DVB-T drivers, when you reconnect your DVB-T stick to the same USB port, although Windows will still ask you for the drivers, it will IDENTIFY the device as "Digital TV receiver". This is NOT good. It means there is some leftovers from the old WDM drivers still in. If you want success installing the BDA drivers, windows should detect your stick as simply a "USB device".

So here's how to completely get rid of all the old drivers, after you have uninstalled them:

1) Follow dohnuts advice: Go into c:\windows\inf and delete the files dtv*.inf and then look at the files that begin oem*.inf. You can double click these files and open them in notepad. Some of those, they were 2 for me in fact, will relate to the Freecom WDM driver.
2) THIS IS THE KEY BIT: You might also notice, there are also some PNF files as well, with the same name as the inf files. For example, for a file called oem3.inf, there might be another called oem3.pnf. Sometimes, there are standalone oem*.pnf files. You should open those in notepad too. They are not exactly easy to read in text, but if you skip a few lines down, you will see that they have references to certain files in your system. You can tell that the file is related to your DVB-T driver if it mentions something like WDM driver inside.

IMPORTANT: When you have checked that there is an oem*.inf (say oem6.inf for example) that corresponds to another device, there is no need to also check the same .pnf file (so in this case do not check oem6.pnf). But you will find some oem*.pnf files not paired by an .inf file. You SHOULD check those too, chances are remainants of details about your older driver are in there. Be CAUTIOUS and delete only the right files. I deleted 2 oem*.inf files and 2 oem*.pnf files.

If you delete the right files, all by magic, when you reconnect your DVB-T stick, it will be detected simply as a "USB device"! Then you can choose the Yakumo, or whichever BDA drivers you want to install, and they will work!!

Also remembered, as someone said they downloaded GBVPR and couldn't get through the installation. I had the same problem too but fixed it!

Simply follow the advice on the website and install the Microsoft .NET framework FIRST! (You will get a link on the GBVPR site that takes you to the Microsoft website. The file is dotnetfx.exe)

Am on v0.98.8 release and am using the correct BDA drivers for my May freecom device (checked the inf files to ensure this) - however it's still not detecting it in the card setup when I ask it to show only the BDA devices in the capture sources :-( Any ideas?

Have you used graphedit or the bda scanner software to detect your device? It's worth checking the name as provided by the bda device drivers.

Having said that, the only time this happened to me was when I'd installed the freecom's own drivers (wdm?) and hadn't used the utility provided with the bda drivers to uninstall it.

Unfortunately, my daughter has this stick at the moment and I'm using a Terratec device so I can't just check the machine.

It looks to me that your device is called

USB Digital-TV Receiver

As I said, I cannot check my device name as it's in my daughter's computer. It may be worth trying the following. Add this to your bda.ini file in the gbpvr folder. NB backup the original first just in case

I should have checked better. I got graphedit in an alternative pvr product that I uninstalled as it was far inferior to gbpvr !!

I put it down to the addled nature of my brain after sorting out my daughter's failing epg download over the phone.

Once you have it running, go to Graph>Insert Filters and look under

BDA Receiver component
BDA Source Filters

You should be able to see the Freecom TV receiver and tuner filters. These are the names you need in the bda.ini file. The inputs and outputs are visible iif you add these filters.
