This isn't a typical sleep mode request so please read on.

I never use my HTPC from about 2am to 12pm and I think that it would be nice to have an option where the box automatically sleeps at a specified time and then wakes back up at another time. I think it would help save power (and money) for a lot of people. I'm not sure if this could be set up in Windows as a scheduled task - so if this can be done, nm.

I'm sorry I didn't make this clearer. I just want the computer to turn off at a certain time and then wake itself up another time. I think I could schedule a hibernation through windows but could I schedule a wakeup too? Also, would GBPVR be able to wake up the computer if a recording appears in the hibernating time?

I guess what I really want is for GBPVR to be told a time to sleep at. What I meant by a typical sleep option is like you see on TVs where you say sleep 30 and it turns off in 30 min. I want a scheduled sleep every night.

Also, the skype phone that i discussed in the other thread will only be needed during the day. We have a landline but skype is great for longdistance and I won't be making any long distance calls in my sleep

Yep, I got it. If windows controls going to sleep (or hibernate), you can be confident that gbpvr will wake the computer up. It does this one minute before the recording is to start. So if the program I linked to works at all, you'd have no problems with missing recordings due to that. Not sure what happens if your computer is scheduled to go to sleep at a time when a recording is actually recording.

What you *really* want is to use windows to hibernate your computer. But you want it not to during the day. The optimal thing for you would be if you could setup a "day" profile in power options, and a "night" profile. The day profile would effectively be "always on", and the night profile would be "hibernate after 1 (or 3 or something) minute(s)". That part is not hard. What I don't know about is whether we could find a program that automatically changes the profile from day to night at a specific time, and a back to day at another time...

GBPVR will prevent windows from going to sleep/hibernation if it is currently recording something, or if a recording is scheduled within the next 15 minutes (or is it 30... can't remember).

My only problem with this is that I'm going to get prompted to input my user password each morning...now to find a solution for this. I'm already using tweakui and that allows me to auto-login but I don't think it works on anything other than a restart or coldboot.

But that does the exact same thing as the program I linked to earlier. And you don't get around the fact that it might force a hibernate during the time when gbpvr might be recording something.

You're right...it might hibernate during a recording. So I guess we'll have to wait and see what sub or the plugin devs can come up with.

Seriously, try googling a bit and see if you can't find a program (a command line one would be ideal), that could change power scheme in windows. That would solve the problem.
