client/server setup + local tuner

I have a machine in streaming client/server mode on a wireless network, which is the problem. I can mostly stream Live tv, but i get stuttering on in progress recordings and sometimes live TV.

Can I configure a local tuner on the client machine so I can mititgate the Live TV? I would like faster channel changes, etc.

I know a wired connection would be better but I can't run ethernet to this spot, looking at powerline networking but that's a ways off for me.

What kind of wireless? Is it a 54Mbps network or the older 802.11b? If you are in streaming mode, try file sharing mode.

I've tried file sharing on previous versions. EXTREME stuttering.

is it better on 98.08? I'll give it a shot.

BTW: Wireless G. I get about 24-48 Mb. on channel 1, the least crowded on my block.. when i dip below 24 i have trouble.
