Are there any reasons I shouldn't upgrade from ver 94.13? I have a PVR-350, 1.8 GHz Dell Dimension 2300, 768 MB RAM, 250 GB HD. The HD has about 200 GB of recordings. Is there any risk of losing the recordings, or losing them from the database? I've read about the new release, and it has several fixes I'd like to have. Are there any precautions I should take, other than the standard recommendation of copying some of the database files?

Thanks.

It might work if you're lucky, but no guarantees on a jump that big.

I would have suggested applying some of the in between releases, but I dont have these installers for you.

Just do it...you know you want to. (and I'm keen to know if it works or not)

"It might work if you're lucky"? Sad I was hoping for a little more encouragement than that. Is there anything I can do to improve my chances?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I would "export recordings" through gbpvr-config-plugins, so that you can import them back later if anything goes wrong or if you have to make a clean install. Don't forget to install .Net2.0 before installing 98.13.
And of course backup gbpvr.mdb and config.xml so that in the worst case you can go back to 94.13, that is if you still have the install-file.
Good luck, may wisdom lighten your path into 98.13-heaven.Smile

make sure your recordings dump is in a safe place, prefferably multiple safe places on different storage devices in case one fails. if changes have been made to the recording dump format sub should be able to tell you shat needs to be changed to make the recordings get imported correctly into the newest version. but that would involve editing the dump file.

on a side note, wow thats a big jump

what about if the OP used the hardware decoder on the 350?

It was just as unsupported in v0.94 as it is in v0.98, and not tested in either.

Thanks, everyone for the tips. I still have my original install file, so I'll take everyone's recommendations and try an upgrade this weekend. I'll report back with my results.

Well, that was a REALLY long weekend. I know it's been a long time sine I said I was going to update, but I thought sub might want to know what happened anyway. I updated to 1.0.16 last night. I initially failed to install .NET 2.0 and, of course, it didn't work. After installing .NET, it started working. My PVR-350 is working, and all my recordings imported correctly. I do have one issue with the plugin control not working properly, but I consider that minor in light of being able to continue to use my PVR-350, and having my recordings properly imported. If I can't find a resolution to the plugin control problem, I'll start a new thread.
