All of my new recordings play back with a black screen(with sound). all of my previous recordings still display and play properly. I can play the new recordings on powerdvd, but not with a picture (only sound) in gbpvr .98.13

i have attached my last log where i tried to play a recording.

Have you set your PC to auto convert files? In the logs I can see you played two files, and MPEG2 file and a MPEG4 file. Which file was a new recording, and resulted in a black screen?

the first one - Chef at Large, was an old recording i was testing to see if it still played properly(and it did/does). The Americas Next Top Model (for the wife i sware ;-))worked, but this was the auto-convert after the recording is finished. The original file still failed.

I also had another recording yesterday, with comskip and auto-convert turned off, and it still fails. I have attached the log from trying to view that recording.

Have you tried playing the files on another machine to check if its playback issue? If its black on another machine, then we probably need to look at the recording service logs.

Yes, I am able to play the recording through the Enhanced Web Admin on a remote computer.

I have attached the GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log for you to take a look at.

Thanks

heh, forgive me for my silly basic questions, but I have found that they can sometimes be needed (I once spent days trying to get a system to boot because I didnt have the HDD set to "large" mode in the BIOS)

so, does Live TV work fine? and if it does not, how are you tuning? do you have a STB that you are using through maybe Svideo or Composite inputs? try checking the connection of the cables.

good luck

Ted,

Everything else works fine. I am using s-video in and dvi out along with a STB. i CAN watch live tv. i CAN watch past recordings before going to the latest version. I am able to watch these large 8g recordings via PowerDVD. Just having problems watching new recordings through gbpvr.

Given you can play the recordings on another machine, or via PowerDVD, then its definitely recording fine. So it sounds like a playback problem - though its strange you can play some of your old recordings.

I'd have to suggest trying different video renderer and/or video decoders. Also make sure you've got auto conversion turned off.

What worked, was switching the video decoder to CyberLink DTV Video Decoder. Now, all new recordings work fine.
