Hi there,

I know that I need the following:

UPDATE: Microsoft now has a hot fix available for this common incompatibility between firewall software and the .NET 2.0 Remoting: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923028/en-us

but unfortunately I can not for the life of me find the file to download from the Microsoft site.

Does anyone have this so I can apply it?

RGDS & TIA

At the time you get this error, if you check the task manager, is GBPVRRecordingService.exe listed as running? If so, then its probably a firewall issue. If not, then zip and attach a set of logs immediately after a crash.

Thats definitely still that same bug. If the Microsoft patch doesnt resolve it for you, you'll need to uninstall the offend antivirus or firewall software.

sub,

Well I'm not running any firewall software (except for the firewall that is part of my wireless router/modem) and I'm running AVG.

So are you saying that you will not be able to make this work on GB-PVR's end or will I have to wait on Microsoft?

Correct. Its not a GB-PVR problem. Its a well known incompatibility with a few of these antivirus/firewall apps, and Microsoft .NET 2.0 remoting. This problem affects several apps not just GB-PVR. The Microsoft MSDN forums have quite a few posts about this problem.

There is nothing I can do about the problem other than advising you to uninstall the offending app. You may not think you're running one of these apps, but I'm certain you'll find are.

There are a few other types of apps that might be hooking into the machine networking to cause this (for example web or download accellerators etc). Most people track down the offending app pretty easily. It usually posts a message in the Windows Event Viewer when this problem occurs, and this normally contains the module name (DLL name). Finding this DLL and viewing the properties will give a good clue which app it belongs to (manufacture name). Alternatively google on the DLL name and you'll find which app installed this network hook.
