I've set up gb-pvr 98.13.b with a new hauppauge hvr-3000 card. It's mostly working quite well. There's a problem with the satelitte tuner driver when using any software which means i have to use gb-pvr in time-slip mode and disable live preview mode, this is the only way i get the satellite channels to work at all. This is not a problem with gb-pvr, but a hauppauge/microsoft problem and at the moment time-shift mode is my only solution to watch satelitte channels.

The problem is in time-shift mode when using either the dvb-t tuner or the dvb-s tuner I can't change channel without gb-pvr hanging and have to shut gb-pvr down. I watch one channel, change channel, gb-pvr switches channel and starts recording the new channel, but the video playback doesn't switch over properly, like it didn't stop playing back the last channel fully and playback hangs, so I have to right click on the windows bar and shut gb-pvr down. I can change channel by exiting back to the epg and selecting a new channel that way but not switch from one channel to next.

I also have a pvr-150 card and in timeshift mode this changes channel fine.

I've tried switching video codecs and dvb multiplexer settings but still get the same result, any idea how to fix this would be great

thanks

p.s. the bda.ini file for the hvr-3000 dvb-t tuner has it listed as "dvb-s" so i had to manually change this value in the ini to "dvb-t" to tune the channels

What exactly happens when you try live preview mode? I've got a HVR-4000, which is effectively the same device, and it seems to work well for me in live preview mode.

Have you tried the same thing with any other video decoders? Some video decoders, dont like the massive changes in timestamps that can occur when you switch channels with DVB.

In preview mode it works perfect for the dvb-t and analog tuner, but change to a satellite channel and the program crashes with in a few seconds, sometimes shows some video before crashing. This happens with the wintv software, even when trying to tune satellite channels. This seems to be a problem for a few others on the hauppauge boards, with some of the nova cards. Wintv log says "cannot get lnb parms" and the debugger points to ntdll but havn't found any answers to the problem yet. I've tried updating all software and switching pci slots etc but no differance. At the moment I'm very happy gb-pvr lets me tune, record and watch thru time shift even if channel surfing is slow.

I tried changing around the video decoders but get roughly the same effects of gb-pvr slowing down and freezing. Does channel changing for the hvr-4000 work in timeshift mode for you?

In time shift mode the pvr150 tuner has smooth switching between mpg files and looking at the log files suggests a graph is created at the start and the file is switched each time the channel changes. The hvr card with the dvr-ms files has a graph created each time the channel changes and the video window of the first channel does not seem to be closing when i change to the second channel and stays underneath. So the program is getting bogged down. When i try pressing escape the second channel dissappears and the old channel is still there in the background frozen. Hope that might makes sense. Would be cool if it was easy to fix with a close video window command or something between channel changes.

Thats odd. With live preview mode my HVR-4000 works great. Near instant channel changes etc.

This is the big downside of timeshift mode with digital cards. You'd much prefer live preview mode if you could get it working...

Yes, I've just checked now. I set it into timeshift mode, using DVR-MS mux, and changed channels about a dozen times. It takes on average about 3.5 - 4.5 seconds to change channels, but seems to do it reliably for me.

Thanks for checking that the 4000 works in timeshift.

Well i found some older drivers (2.5d) on the swedish hauppauge site, and they seem to be more stable in live mode. The old drivers always crashed a few seconds after turning to a satalitte channel, the new ones only crash about one in seven times when changing to a satelitte channel, and if they don't crash right after changing to a satellite channel that channel will work fine till i change channel again.

Theres definitely a different in stability between the old and new drivers, i still need to mess with video decoders to see whats best and maybe do a fresh windows install, but it seems its a driver thing or hardware issue. But if the dvb-t tuner works fine is there any reason the dvb-s tuner should not work. I'm still not having any luck even tuning the dvb-s stations with the wintv software. I think hauppauge will have to work out if this a driver thing or if my cards faulty

where did you get the hvr-4000? i didnt even think that was being sold yet. Are the drivers you use the 2.5e august drivers that most of the hauppauge satellite card are using?

Hauppauge sent me a sample a month or two ago. I'm not sure if they're for sale or not. I'd assumed they were for sale since they're listed on several european websites.

The driver version I'm using is: 2.117.24236.0
