Hi, first off great software! It's really quite awesome.

Problem: I can't seem to get GB-PVR to work on my intended system. GB-PVR startup warns me that VMR9 and VMR7 are not supported on this system, and when I try to use overlay, the app just hangs forever.

It's an older laptop (3yrs old), which from reading other posts would normally just toss this up as an unfixable problem. However, since apps like WinTV2000, Windows Media Player, etc. play video perfectly on this system, I thought I'd post here to see if anyone had any insight on any possible solutions.

Specs:
PII 600MHz
512M RAM
8MB ATI Rage Mobility Pro with TV out
Hauppage WinTV-PVR USB2 (connected via USB2.0)
Windows 2000
DirectX 9c

Main questions I have are:

Would installing WinXP help?
Would/could a newer video card driver help?
Any other configuration settings I might try?

Dude, get a new system [Image: biggrin.gif]

I don't think you ever gonna get that system running properly.

edit:
Win XP won't help
New driver won't help

Yes, is probably never going to work well on that system. The CPU is too slow, and the video card a bit "under powered". That said, it shouldn't hang. You may find setting a different MPEG2 decoder may help.

Okay, it was worth a shot. Slight correction is that it's a PIII, not a PII if it mattered.

Just for my own edification/curiosity, is there a simple explanation for the difference in hardware requirements between GB-PVR and, say, WinTV (which works fine)?

Thanks again,

G

My choice to use Microsoft GDI+ for drawing the screens and menus is probably the biggest problem. Its a great library which provides antialiasing, transparencies etc, but at the cost of speed. It works really well on modern fast machines, but is really sluggish on slow machines.
