Thanks Jeff, that's what I forgot to do. I installed the Video Archive plugin and the show search showed up in the config program and on the main menu in the skin as well. what confused me is that it worked before I swtiched to the community skin without it. Now I remember that I also tried to install Xrecord at that time as well. When I couldn't get it to work and didn't know how to find out if I had the reight databases, etc., I uninstalled it which is when Show Search disappeared.

I try to only install one thing at a time so I can figure out what when wrong if something does go wrong but it all looks so good!

I really like both the community skin and Show Seach.

I get a lot of 'failed copy' errors but they disappear before I can read them.
On the second pc now, the text for show descriptions and titles is very tiny and almost unreadable.

I have been meaning to post a message about this. I believe I know what the problem is. I see the same thing happen at home when I am running GBPVR on my PC at the same that I am using it with an MVP. The problem is that the second instance of GBPVR has many of the graphic resource files open (e.g., task images) and thus they can not be copied over. I think the kin plug-in is (currently) designed to work only when there is a single instance of GBPVR running and that instance is on a PC.

Before applying changes, I think what the skin plug-in needs to do is check to see how many instances of GBPVR on running on the machine and check the config.xml file to see how many MVP-related instances of GBPVR are set to autostart via the recording service. The utility that applies the changes should kill all instances of GBPVR before trying to copy the files. If there are a non-zero number of GBPVR instances that will be autostarted by the recording service then the utility will need to kill the recording service too to prevent it from restarting GBPVR during the copy process. The utility should then copy all the files. After copying the files, the utility should restart the recording service if it was killed and then only start an instance of GBPVR on the PC if the number of instances of GBPVR running on the PC was (one) greater than the number configured in the config.xml file for MVPs. What happens now is if I run the plug-in on the MVP, after doing so I end up with a second instance of GBPVR running on the PC where none was running before.

For inner workings of SkinPlugin and related questions, McBainUK really needs to be the one answering these questions because I am not qualified to answer anything but basic troubleshooting.

Any other details you can provide? Theme being used, ect.

Just to clarify, because I think we're talking two different things here, when I mention I did this on a second pc i mean both pc's are running as stand alone GBPVR machines.
On both systems I am using the Avance theme.

I hope to have a new release ready this weekend, with a "write log to file option". It's most likely taskimages failing to copy because non found.

Thanks for your post, I've re-read it a few times and I've think I've got it. I havent got an MVP setup at the mo so unable to test. Is this how it should work...?

• When using an MVP another GBPVR instance is made.
  
• Because of this images are still locked when the SkinPlugin tries to apply changes by overwriting the images.
  
• So I need to kill or GBPVR processes before running the applyer program.
  
• Count the number of GBPVR processes killed and only restart GBPVR if running on the PC. If just running on MVP(s) let the recording service deal with restarting it.

Few questions:

• Are you sure the recording service will restart GBPVR MVP servers automatically?
  
• Is there a way to check if the recording service is currently recording anything before I kill it.
  
• Do you have any example code/links to help with killing and restarting processes in dot net?
