I know about Nvidia & newer drivers for older cards & I also know about using VMR9-custom due to the aspect bug with VRM7 & 9 so this isn't my question/problem.

I'm running GBPVR on an older PC 933mhz p3 with a 6200 pci card.
using VMR9 custom with hardware acceleration gives me a stable picture however when playing back recordings & DVDs the screen will flash green for a split second every few seconds.

CPU is around %65.
when I knock it down to overlay there are no problems & CPU is more like %50.
I'm assuming the PCI interface may be a bottleneck and also the CPU doesn't have the grunt for VMR9.

I originally purchased this card to use in an e-machine someone gave me that I had upgraded to a 1.2 ghz celeron but then someone gave me a 933mhz dell so I decided to use that instead.

Also, if I take out the 6200 PCI & put in a FX5200 AGP CPU usage goes down & as long as I have the display set to 720x480 I can run VMR-9 without any issues.

I assumed since the 6200 had hardware scaling & the fx5200 didn't(hence a needed resolution of 720x480) the 6200 would be better.
I also assumed the 6200 would have better TV-out. (I havn't actually tested this yet)

Did I assume wrong?

I'm, also using the purevideo decoder.

Also, i'm confused on what i'm giving up by going to overlay with the purevideo decoder.

I've read it's not as good as vmr. I can say i've noticed that the menu's & OSD don't seem as sharp but I didn't really see too much of a quality drop when video is playing.

If I choose overlay as prefered renderer in the purevideo settings am I no longer using hardware acceleration?

Can't comment on the green flashes, but what I have observed through experimentation is DXVA is only enabled when AGP read&write is enabled. In other words DXVA is not available on plain PCI. This also means VMR hardware de-interlacing is not available on PCI because it requires DXVA+VMR.

Really?
Well, if that's the case it explains a lot.

Thanks.
I did not even think of that.

I'll just stick with Overlay then.
Not a biggie.
This is just a play back only PC for the bedroom on a 25 inch TV with RCA in.

Can I at least make myself feel better by assuming the TV-out quality is better than an FX card because it does have hardware scaling? Smile

Is this right? You have a plain PCI 6200? I didn't know you could still get PCI (not Express, not AGP) cards with relatively modern chipsets.

I gave someone some bad info yesterday, if so.

Newegg had a PCI 6200 3d-fuzion for $30
They don't seem to carry it anymore.
There is one however for 95$.
