Verizon Fios service with GBPVR

I am getting FIOS TV installed this week (switching from DirecTV). I want to continue using GBPVR, it has been a great product, so I am willing to give whatever information is necessary to get it up and running (if you are still interested).

Please let me know.

Just a "for what its worth" I was having dinner with a friend last night and he told me that he was told that Bellsouth would be offering IPTV sometine in 2007. He has "cable TV" from BS but they don't have any HDTV on their system --- customers who want HDTV are pushed to DirecTV. But a friend of his at BS told him that they were in beta on a IPTV solution that would use "fiber to the house".

My friend has BS "fiber to the curb" now but it doesn't actually do much for him as the best DSL he can get is 3MB --- so BS isn't doing much with all that capacity, at least not in his neighborhood. On the otherhand a buddy of mine in Southern California just moved to a new house and already has Verizon "fiber to the house". He gets 15MB DSL!

I talked to a Verizon tech, that didn't seem to know that much. She said that they don't modify the boxes. She thought that the serial ports were active. Of course, she probably also thought I was from outer space for even asking the question!

I will probably swicth to FIOS as soon as it's available and experiment. I won't sign up long term until I test it. The other issue is if I want to use both tuners, I will need two STB's at $4@month each.

Does GBPVR have a limited number of channel availability? More likely, my PVR150's probably have a limited channel hardware.

When I get it, I will let people know about my success or failure.

Assuming you're connecting to their STB via composite/svideo, then I think you'll find a limit of 999 channels via GB-PVR, but that could be easily increased if need be.

I have FIOS TV. The STBs do NOT have the serial port enabled. The sd box is a motorola 2500-1. Only the local channels plus a couple more are analog. The rest are digital and encoded. I think you must use ir blaster. I am researching now if the IR Blaster will control my 2500 box.

I just got my FIOS TV installed. I will try the IR Blaster later today to see if it works. I am not sure about the data port, but from what the guy above says it doesnt work. The picture is very nice.

Just an update for others with FIOS TV. GBPVR and a USBIRT works great with FIOS TV.

So, if I've got this corrcect, with FIOS I'd need two STBs for my two analog cards (PVR150 and M150) and GBPVR would not be able to change the channel on the STBs. Is this correct? If so, I think it would rule out FIOS TV for me (at least for now).

BTW, what about MVPs? Any issues with them? Would they continue to work as they do with a standard cable service?

I still have not been able to switch to Fios, waiting on the local govt. to allow it. Since then I have switched to Time Warner Digital. I got one box for one card and direct linked to the other card (PVR-150's). I set up two accounts with Zap2it, one for Digital and one for Analog. I just have to make sure that I record any high numbered shows first (with the digital card).

Optimally I would get two boxes, but at what point do you just switch to the PVR box with two tuners? or the PVR with the Media options? I will probably do what I have done with Time Warner with Fios. The interface for Time Warner is junk, there is no way to delete the loads of porn channels, ppv, etc from the interface.
