Only for people who choose to.

I never understood people who have to see a new movie the day it comes out, or must go skiing on opening day or who will line up for hours or days for the very short lived pleasure of being "the first" with a new toy.

The only good reason I can see to stand in line for days waiting for a PS3 is so you can sell it to some fool for $15,000.

I waited for about 10 hours in front of a Circuit City, who were really nice to us and honored out list. I did it with my girlfriend and 4 of our friends, we had tents and pillows and blankets, not that we actually slept, but it was much more comfortable.. ironically the other "campers" made fun of the people who were actually camping.

@fatman
that is very unfortunate about your son, however the controller is very good, it works amazingly well. I stood there with my mouth agape when I first used it you dont even really need buttons to play wii sports, its all controller movement. tennis is one of the best ways to see how it works, you swing and hit the ball, there is a rumble in your hand and a swat comes from the wiimote, its quite amazing, something you really have to try for yourself.

I am not going to guess about how the remote will work for your son but you could take him over to a Gamestop/EBGames and they have them out for demos. not attached to anything, you have to give them your license to use the demo (so you dont run off with it). I hope it goes well for you, the system is so amazingly fun. although I would be happy to let you try with mine... were you in beantown.

@ queues
yeah we stand in lines, although being a programmer queue is much more descriptive, as long as its not a stack Sad
and our queues are on the right side of the aisle (right in both senses of the word):p

I have every intention of finding a working demo unit first. We are strongly considering a PS3 since that is a known commodity due to being familiar with the controller and games (currently have PS2). The Wii does look interesting though. My boy is really into the sports games and fighters, while I like just about everything.

The X-Box 360 isn't out of the question, and may be favored once real world comparisons come out between all 3 systems.

I watching something on G4TV about the Wii & I really wasn't impressed with the graphics in most of the games.
They looked like X-box quality to me.
And it appeared that the screens frooze for a split second a couple of times when there was a lot of action going on in the Zelda game they were showing off.

Nothing close to x-box 360.
I havn't seen any Ps3 graphices yet.

10 hours in line? In a few weeks there will be pyramids of Wii's and PS3's in every wal-mart in the country.

The question is why not? I'm on vacation this week, so it's the perfect time to play some Zelda. Also it's quite fun to wait in line with a bunch of Nintendo fans (talking about games, playing DS, etc.). The Nintendo fans are a much more civil crowd than the Playstation crowd. After all look at all the violence that happened during the PS3 launch.

Graphics don't make a good game, game play does. Nintendo is about making fun games with innovative game play. Nintendo has made it quite clear that the Wii is not as powerful as a 360 or PS3. It's probably about twice as powerful as the Gamecube. Nintendo is more concerned with innovating game play rather than increasing the polygon count this time around. The new Zelda is a Gamecube port so the graphics have only been slightly upgraded. Just wait until a Wii native Zelda comes out... Also I have yet to experience any slow downs when playing Zelda.

I have experienced no pauses while playing my wii, nor has my controller strap broken, the other question is why the hell did it break, did they throw it at the tv??? and what did they expect?

On ign.com's review of Wii Sports:

(As a side note, always wear your wrist straps. One of our ad girls -- Katherine Bowe -- became so engrossed in tennis that the Wii remote slipped from her hand and crashed into a nearby wall at mach speeds; luckily, although the strap broke, the back case flew off and the batteries spilled out, it all worked again when we put it back together.)

Fatman_do Wrote:Also, to defend the Wii, its graphics are only supposed to be 480p at best.

I didn't think the graphics were bad.
I just thought they wern't up to par with the xbox 360 or the Ps2.
The Gamecube was on par with xbox & PS2 from what I could see so I just expected the Wii to jump up in graphics also.

I didn't know it was not HD.

One other thing I did not know was that you can play your gamecibe games on the wii & that it's possible they were demoing the gamecube version on G4.

Does the Wiii use a special component cable ?
