first and foremost you need the Homeseer home automation program already running along with the HSGider plugin. The radio shack plug-in power toys i believe are simply stand alone remote operated x-10 modules. They can be triggered with Homeseer with the proper x10 computer interface.

What this does is simply send a command to homeseer, thru hsgirder to trigger an event you already have setup within homeseer..

Mostly it's not something i use a great deal as most things here are automaticly triggered but i find it useful, especially for watching a movie in other than the home theater room. It allows event buttons to come up in the osd so you can dim the lights as the movie starts. There are also a few buttons that i set up specifically for my wife, gotta keep the WAF high as possible so as not to inpact the Home automation budget. Smile

Can this be modified to use HAL2000 (http://www.automatedliving.com) instead of Homeseer? Maybe even getting HAL to speak through the speakers?

Not being all that familiar with HAL2000 i can't answer your question. It was specifically written to send event commands to HS. Only the developer would be able to tell you that. He's not around much these days due to work considerations.

Hi all -- happy thanksgiving to those in the land of the free and etc ... I'm sort of back, work has subsided, the chase is over, and golf is definately over here ...

-- asout ... know next to nothing about HAL except it's about the same thing as Homeseer (like a Ford and a Chev) ... if HAL can take a command via a TCP/IP or thru an API, then the HS plug could be modded to talk to HAL pretty easily ... of course I could never test it, but would be happy to share the source (in about a week, just finished version 2 and I need it tested) ... if you can tell HAL to speak with such a command no problem there either (my HS talks via it's own TTS)

-- tipster ... what nightwalker said and what's above ... if you have a pc with software that puts whatever the RS toys needs on a powerline (assuming it is x10) and it can react to a TCP/IP command or has an API, all good ... I used hsGirder cause it acts as that API for HS and HS takes care of the serial communication with the x10 stuff (not even going to try that) .. not sure about WAF with any device that has the word toy in it though

-- nightwalker ... thanks for the support since daytona (hard to believe it's 40 weeks ago), will be sending you a new version if that interests you after I finish the docs tomorrow I hope ... Cool

Thanks for the plugin folks! I'm new to GB-PVR, but with a little bit of fiddling around I got it working perfectly.
So, a couple of questions:
1. Is work still being done on a new version of this plugin? If so, what are the differences?
2. If it's possible to get info from GB-PVR to Homeseer, would it be possible to get info from Homeseer back to GB-PVR?

Hi and welcome ... glad to hear it works for you. You are known-user number 3, it's just so popular Big Grin

I have been using (and Nightwalker's been "beta" testing) a new version (v2) of the plug for about ... I'm not sure ... but it has been a while. It works as the old version did, but I've been too work-consumed to document it properly and I hate poorly documented plugs, so I won't do it (besides, BOTH of the plugin users are up to date Cool ... till now)

In any case, most of the change has nothing to do with functionality, just underpinnings like using stuff provided by .net 2.0 (generics and a bunch of my own bases classes I made) and more robust (some at least) error handling. Added a skinner's-only option (so it does not need configuration at all), added functionality to reload the skin info on activation, and added a config form (to hopefully limit "fiddling"). I think that's the extent of it. I will try and get something up here if I get to take Sunday off soon.

As for your second question, interesting you ask ... Nightwalker mentioned this kind of thing a while ago ... I did a prototype where I could get stuff sent by HS (hsGirder) to be captured by a stub I built. Since hsGirder talks Girder protocol, this was not rocket science, Girder is pretty well documented in other places. Was thinking of adding the function to the HS Plugin V3 (more for fun, I'm not sure I'd use it). No promises on date, but if it would be useful, let me know what your HS would send and how you would want GBPVR to consume (display) it ... currently thinking "splash on top of playing video" or put into the VAPanel queue (assuming I can figure that out) ... thought and suggestions always appreciated ... dc

Hi Dave,
I'm no programmer (just a fiddler), so I have no idea what some of the things you mention actually meanSmile

I was thinking along the lines of having something appear in GB-PVR when certain activities/triggers happen in Homeseer. As examples, being notified somehow if a particular motion sensor is triggered or if you receive an incoming phone call. Maybe even a notification of any HS events that occur, when they occur.
Displaying over the video window would be great!

BTW DaveC, my post is proof that there's more than 3 users. I've been lurking for a while and want to cheer you on to further developments. I've been working on some other GBPVR integration issues so I've only given this plug-in the 'twice-over' and am really glad someone put this together. Thanks!
