No settings in your tv-setup for inputs?
I'm quite sure there is a setting in the hauppauge software for svideo/composite selection. (rgb/svideo for PAL users I think).

I'm now seeing where the setting is for the hauppauge software. The linked image shows the configuration screen.

http://www.htpcnews.com/images/mediamvp/...config.gif

My problem is I can set the video format to either NTSC or PAL, but I could not change the video output from enabled. But apparently the video output setting has such other options as SCART, SVid, and Composite. I will have to figure out why I could not change this setting. It appears to be the resolution.

Has anyone had the problem where they could not change this setting from the default "enabled"?

Sometimes the flash setting in the mvp need to be initialized and saved with the Hauppauge server to run properly. Have you ever run the Haupapauge software, configured it and done this? Make sure you are using the software that came with you mvp (or newer). If you aren't sure in the Hauppauge folder there is a file called INSTALL.LOG that indicates the setup file you are using.

Also on some Hauppauge dongles I have noticed that the Video Output doesn't wrap around options with the right arrow key, you have to use the left arrow.

BTW, that's a really old screen capture on that site. There are lots more options now.

tipstir, i am attempting to use composite, not s-video. i've tried two sets of rca cables. one gold plated to no avail.

mvallevand, i have used the hauppauge server to configure the device, but i cannot get the video output setting to move from "enabled" at all. as if "enabled" is the only option. is it possible to hardcode the composite setting on the mvp?

the latest in my battle with the mediamvp...

last night i had a mvp crash/reboot. did nothing to attempt to resolve it. went to bed and to work. when i got home from work and booted up the mvp (hauppauge services are stopped), the video output was color. it got to the loading application phase of bootup, and the video jumped back to b&w. now all i have is b&w.

I'm inclined to think you may have a bad MediaMVP. If the cable and the TV all checked out OK, and it changed suddenly from color to B/W during bootup, maybe its just faulty and needs replacement.

Just another idea: do you have more video-inputs on your tv you could try?
Maybe try disconnecting other hardware from your tv. I had a problem once with conflicting hardware or conflicting inputs. I don't exactly remember and I don't feel like trying out to find out.Smile

nope, these are the only set of inputs. i've gotten a bit further in my problem solving, only to make me feel that jbyram2's synopsis is the most accurate.

i removed all hauppauge software from my pc, and set my gbpvr mvp server autostart to 0. so i would have nothing for my mvp to connect to. i reset my mvp by removing power for 5 mins. i reapplied power to have color video output. while sitting at the setup screen telling me that no streaming servers were found, the screen flickered from color to black and white (around 4 minutes after turning the mvp on).

i'm all out of ideas.

Working while cold, and then crapping out after warming up is a classic hardware failure symptom, as is the reverse (failing to boot correctly, but working correctly after a warm reboot.)

You could possibly use the mvpmc dongle to test this. The setting option on the main menu do allow you to explicitly enter composite as a Video Output type. Once this is set you could try Emulation Mode to see if it displays colour with GBPVR.
