Ted the Penguin Wrote:um... yeah, you might be having problems with signal strength, even if you find the receiver, you might need to take the casing off of the LED and point it striaght at the receiver to work. this is a well known issue with the PVR150 IR blaster.

it looks like its over on the left side somewhere

they seem to have serial ports, if you can find a executable that works with them that could be an option

I am just going to uninstall everything try and follow these instructions I got from Hauppauge and make sure all drivers are updated and installed. If that doesn't work... I guess I will try that serial port option. How does the serial port option work?

And thanks to you guys for helping the inexperienced!!! The noobs and I appreciated!

you would need to find a program that will change the channels on your STB using the serial port. and I have no idea if one exists

Everything failed last night, I couldn't even get the friggin thing working with basic cable. I am so frustrated with this project!

I just put everything back to normal and unistalled eveything. Looking to rest then gather enough steam and try again. This time just try and get the basic cable to view on my screen.

Thanks a lot for the help guys!

sorry its not going well for you, I suggest starting by getting the PVR150 to work in WINTV2000, then move up to GB-PVR.

take a deep breath, relax, walk away for a day or two. the if you feel good, go back to it. meantime you can still mess with GB-PVR, getting your skin selected, plugins configured, get all the music, video, and pictures on your system to be available. that kind of stuff, shouldnt be too hard, and maybe will make you feel better.

just doing basic cable is a great idea to start, then move up to the STB when you get everything else going.

good luck

The IR Blaster software that comes with Hauppauge can certainly cause some grief, especially when you can't get it to power on or off your STB.

One good way to determine if the blaster is working at all is with a digital camera. Most digital cameras pick up infra-red, so you can actually see the emitter blink while looking at it through the camera. Test your camera with a known working remote to see if yours will work this way. Then use it with the emitter. If the emitter doesn't blink at least you won't insanely keep trying different STB codes trying to make it work.

One thing at a time...

lol, actually ROFL, the hauppauge "IR" led well its more of a "Red" LED that happens to emit small amounts in the IR band. a good way to fix this is... cannibalize the LED, get one from a tivo and throw that on there, or get one from radioshack or some other local electronics retailer...

speaking of, did we ever determine whether the LED had a resistor built in?

Thanks Guys,

I guess I will do that, configure GBPVR tinker with the other files (music n videos) and skins.

I called up support (Hauppauge) they also said to pry the IR receiver apart and directly stick it to the glass or plastic right in front of the STBs' IR transmitter, he also said that only one code was available (146) and it should work. He also stated that if the light is blinking, it should be working. (The light does blink when I click on Test next and Power on/off buttons). I read elsewhere, that this code works, they do have it running!

You guys have given me new life tonight I will try to get it running just using WINTV 2000. No IR blaster just the analog cable connected to my 150 card.

Again, great support from this forum! TED and wtg, Thanks!

Your emitter probably is working since they are pretty reliable, but the red light doesn't mean anything since it's a seperate emitter. If you can't get the blaster to simply power on or off your STD, check it with a digital camera.

wtg,
sorry but you are wrong about the blaster, please trust me on this one, since I have a 150, with the blaster.

there is only one LED

its a red one, if you see it blink, thats it, the end, its working. it may not be effective, but its working. if you truly dont believe me just search the forum (or the internet) for issues with the ir blaster on the retail PVR150.

Well Ted, it wouldn't be the first time. Wink

IR isn't visible to the naked eye, so unless they have a LED that emits across both the visible and invisible IR spectrum, they're using two of them. The devices I've actually taken a close look at use two LEDS, one visible to let you see it's getting power and producing a signal, and one that actually produces the IR.

Perhaps the blaster has just one diode but I haven't heard of it before. Gonna have to go look at mine more closely now. Smile
