Can anyone explain why 4gb were taken up in 1.5 hr recording at a customized "low quality" setting w/ cbr 2750 on diamond usb pvr 660 at 352x480? I'm pretty sure I selected low in gbpvr. I modified the low column in config to be 2750.

From looking in the logs, it looks like this device uses some proprietary method for controlling resolution and bitrate, so GB-PVR is unable to set these and you get whatever the defaults are.

oic...thanks.

would wintv usb pvr2 use standard algorithms that would allow custom recording bitrates?

Yes it does.

You could try changing its INIT_MODE setting in direct.ini to IVAC, but this may not help.

well, change to ivac (dunno what ivac means) didn't change anything.

that said, seems like it can record 720x480 and 352x480. however, the bitrate is totally uncontrollable. for 720x480 set at cbr 4800, it averages 5000. for 352x480 at 2500 or 2750, it still does about 3000kbps.

Honestly, looking at your previous logs, I dont think it'll be changing the resolution, but that might have changed with the INIT_MODE.

hmm...i switched back to default mode. i used media player classic and did screen capture as bit map. one file is 720x480 and dthe other is 352x480....so seems like it is capable of switching resolution... however, not able to control bitrate.
