how do i record two overlapping shows? one is on channel 4 at 5-7pm. Other is channel 2 7-9pm.

I set zero padding on first recording. however, couldn't do 2nd recordding in tv guide.

tried manual recording from 7-9 and that seemed to work. however, the intervals goes in 10 minutes rather than 1 minute. (i.e 7:10 vs 7:01).

any ideas?

There doesnt seem to be any overlap in those two times. The first one finishes at 7pm, the second on starts at 7pm. This should should be fine.

You can actually type in any time your want, ie 0703 is 7:03. It only goes in 10 minute increments if you use the left/right arrow keys.

not sure but i got an error saying that i had to cancel one program to record the other in the tv guide. it worked fine once i switched to manual mode.

It might of been a guide data error (for example, first show finishing at 7:30pm, second show starting at 7:00pm).

I noticed a with the last version that it handles recording these kind of line-ups differently. Sometimes it will include the padding and sometimes it will stop the first recording at the end of the show (i.e. 7pm) and start the next recording exactly when it stopped the first one. Sometimes it will pad the first show and begin the second after the first one stops recording (i.e. 7:05pm). Is there a setting where the user can determine how "overlapping" shows are handled? The reason I ask is that I had one show record the beginning of the next show. I watched the show and deleted it. When I went to watch the 2nd show I noticed I was missing the first 5 minutes.

It shouldnt ever do that. Padding is considered optional, and if another recording is scheduled to start, the padding will be ignored.

Next time it happens, zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

I had an odd problem occur yesterday with back to back shows, whereby the second show aborted early.

Schedule:
This Life Ten Years On 22:00 - 22:20
That Life 22:20 - 23:00

show 1 started with pre-padding and ended at exactly 22:20.
[We were watching show1 whilst it was still in progress]
show 2 started at 22:20 but ended at 22:36 with this message in the log

Recording has passed endtime+padding. Stopping.

Also, there are a very large number of these entries in the log in the 2mins prior to 22:20

Schedule recording is allocated to a tuner that is currently in use.... Moving recording to another available capture source.
02/01/2007 22:19:57.718 VERBOSE [5] RecordingFactory.save()
02/01/2007 22:19:57.718 VERBOSE [5] Save(): Updated existing scheduled recording

settings are:
<PreShowPadding>2</PreShowPadding>
<PostShowPadding>6</PostShowPadding>
<AllowedBeginningOverlap>3</AllowedBeginningOverlap>

BTW: what does AllowedBeginningOverlap do?

Any ideas?

This is cope with the trick US networks were using to annoy tivo etc, ie shows ending at 1 minute past the hour - effectively to stop another show being able record at the start of that hour.

Scratch that: I just watched show 2 and discovered that it was only 10 mins long. I had misread the xmltv data due to the extra zeros in the time 20070102223000. Shows 1&2 finished perfectly.

Sorry for wasting your time Sub.
