minimum hardware requirements?

I recently installed 0.23.13 with the following HW:

Athlon 1GHz CPU
384MB PC133 memory
Gigabyte GA-7ZX
Apollo FX 5200 AGP w/ TV-out
PVR-250
160GB HD
Win 2K w/ latest SPs

Everything installed and started-up fine, but changing channels takes 5-10 seconds. Also, if I click any additional remote buttons during the change the app either locks-up for 30+ seconds or just hangs indefinitely.

Should this setup be able to run GB-PVR?

My plan is to try it on an Athlon 2500XP system over the weekend if necessary. If the 1GHz system is capable, I'll start troubleshooting it as-is.

yes, the slow responsiveness is likely due to your setup, all the CPU's I tried that were under 1,5GHz has similar issues, also I would advise you add more ram, 384Mb is barely enough for win2k to run by itself let alone do anything like run gbpvr which because it is .net consumes a fairly hefty chunk of ram

Um, it runs quite smoothly on my 1GHz VIA with 256MB ram and win XP.... but I mostly use it for recording and viewing recordings.

You could set a lower bitrate (vbr maybe) for the Live TV.

Thanks for the suggestion. Are you able to flip through channels without any stability problems? If so, how long between channels?

The first thing i'd try would be to up the memory as that costs peanuts and will probably do the trick.

When running, do you get high cpu usage or constant hd activity?

I did a little testing this evening. Watching live TV only uses about 200MB of memory so I don't think that's the problem. On the other hand, live TV puts CPU usage at 60%-75%. Changing channels easily causes it to briefly jump to 100%. Even quickly cycling up/down through the main menu items can cause a 100% spike.

For comparison I tried the Beyond TV trial. Live TV results in 30%-50% CPU use, no stuttering or channel change problems. I usually have this machine running MythTV without any trouble. I'll try the 2500XP this weekend. I guess this is just the extra overhead of .NET/C#?

Check what codecs you are using. I suspect different codecs would/could render different cpu usage.
