This is not a question but rather a posting with a few
things I learned that may help others.
I recently bought an AverTVHD MCEA180 HDTV card and installed GB-PVR
as (superior) alternative to the AverTV software from Avermedia.
LiveTV plays back smoothly, but when I went to record or timeshift
even using DVR-MS, the recording would freeze.
After many failed attempts, I finally figured out that :
1. I needed to install the Q810243 Update from Microsoft to
allow playing the dvr-ms files used by GB-PVR.

File; Q810243_WXP_SP2_x86_ENU.exe
Windows XP SP1 Update: Watch TV Shows Recorded by Media Center PCs on Other Windows XP PCs
2. I also needed to update to >= MediaPlayer 9.
I was so happy that this solved the problems and I can now record and
timeshift successfully.
GB-PVR works really well ... playback and recording is much smoother than
the AverTV application, which often had audio/video sync problems,
lockups, etc.
3.
I also learned that there is a keyboard shortcut for displaying
signal strength, which was not listed in the GB-PVR Wiki Keyboard
reference.
The keyboard shortcut for displaying Signal strength is CTRL-O in LiveTV.
Previously, I was switching to the AverTV application just to view
signal strength on the TINY cell-phone style bar graph.
With GB-PVR, the Signal strength meter and quality meter are HUGE
and able to be seen across the room while I adjust my antenna.
Perfection!
I also love the EPG guide support through Zap2it.
