Assuming you've got your DVD audio decoder set to 'system default', then you can safely ignore this.

I don't. It's set in the config tool to use the NVidia Audio Decoder, not System Default. Maybe this is the issue. If it is, I don't know what to do about it.

Would unregistering different audio decoders help?

Ah, thats fine. Its the Audio Renderer thats set to 'system default' not the Audio Decoder. This can be safely ignored.

I tried everything that I could think of. I guess I'll stick to Media Center.

If anyone else reads this and either knows what is wrong or a useful troubleshooting trick, let me know.

You don't necessarily have to use MCE to play DVDs on the system. If you can get them working correctly under Windows Media Player you can get them working under GB-PVR.

Unfortunately I have no additional tricks to try to get audio working on your setup.

This worrys me - as they can get in each other way.

I found I didnt have any sound from DVDs untill in installed an AC3 codec - would post a link but can't remember where I got from :o

That's what I've been told and that's why I haven't given up on GBPVR yet since it works well for my purposes otherwise. I can watch DVDs using WMP, so I figure I should be able to get working with GBPVR.

Me too. I'm pretty certain that the problem is related to a codec conflict of some kind. I'm just out of ideas of how to troubleshoot.

Not necessarily. If you're clever with HIP you can get the remote working with multiple applications. Unfortunately, I'm not very clever with HIP. I agree that too many applications can ruin the old Family Acceptance Factor.

I can't answer whether the AC3 codec is free or not, but I can state that DVDs usually come with AC3 encoded audio. Thing is, the nVidia PureVideo codec should be able to decode AC3 (I am nearly positive that is how I'm decoding AC3 audio from DVD and ATSC TV), and I thought you tried that.

Have you downloaded GSpot to see how your system responds to different media streams yet? It won't solve your problems but it will give you a window into the installed codec base, and let you edit codec priority (i.e. "merit" values).

If you're clever with HIP...

I hadn't gotten far enough to start messing with HIP yet. Just read about it for the first time this weekend. It only works with GBPVR, right? Not stand-alone. I can't use it to remap the controls for Media Center can I? For example, could I use HIP to intercept "The Green Button" signal so that Media Center no longer pops up. I accidentally hit that stupid thing all the time.

Well, there is a SourceForge project AC3Filter that is free. I guess when people talk about AC3 they are usually are talking about this project as opposed to an AC3 codec. But I may be typing nonsense.

I am using the evaluation PureVideo codec because it solved a problem I had with Media Center not being able to play DVDs at all. I think it should be able to do everything I want, but isn't working because of some code conflict.

Maybe I can use PureVideo for the video decoding and AC3Filter for audio decoding. I'll experiment with that later.

Yes, I've used that. It helped, but I really don't undertand what I'm doing. It was helpful to (un)register codecs as opposed to using the command line which was getting tedious. I did about as much as I felt comfortable with and didn't want to get too wreckless and ruin things that were already working.
