Quote:Oh, you think it has something to do with the actual data stream? I figured it was just a poorly behaved driver pulling the rug out from the RecordingService.
When the signal is weak, I'm fairly sure you device is passing on some corrupt data to GB-PVR's PSI Parser, which spits the dummy when trying to parse it.

Quote:I played with Transport Stream back in the past, and can probably muster something up if I try some dedicated bug reproduction. Only problem might be disk space; TS files are HUGE and that Kung Fu recording took 45 minutes to crash.
Yeah, I know. Unfortunately I dont have any other good suggestions.

Quote:I assume that all I need to do is set the BDA MUX to Transport Stream? Normally I use Microsoft DVR-MS.
Unfortunately you cant record a full transport stream with GB-PVR. You'd need to use some other software. It sort of varies from device to device. Some card like the Twinhan supply utilities for recording these. DVB cards can use dvbstreamexplorer to record them. I think TSReader can also be used to record them.

Sub, do you think I can use TSReader Lite (free) to generate useful information for you? It apparently supports my AVerHD A180 ATSC card.

List of features:

Thanks!

I'm sure which limitations the Lite version has, but give it a go. If it can record a transport stream, then it should be fine.

EDIT: No, unfortunately it wont. I see the "Records the transport stream to a disk file" only works on the Standard and Professional versions.

Ah, shucks. <grumble, gripe> Well, I'll contact AVerMedia and see if they know of something that will work. It's not like I'm trying to hack anything, I just want the raw data.

No go from AVerMedia: "Unfortunately, we have not tested any transport stream software with the card."

I'll ask this here first, might bump it up in a new thread:

Anyone know if the Twinhan Capture Tool 2 (i.e. the BDA one) can capture the entire Transport Stream from all BDA devices, or only from a Twinhan driver?

Sub, ass-u-ming I can use the Twinhan capture tool with my AVerTVHD A180, I'm not quite sure how to go about getting the information you need.

To reproduce the bug, I believe I'd have to fire up GB-PVR to record the questionable channel, waiting for a signal drop & RecordingService crash. However the Twinhan tool seems to want to issue its own tuning request.

Does anyone know if the Twinhan tool can simply sit in the background while GB-PVR is running, and capture the Transport Stream to disk while GB-PVR does its thing? Or is this a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth?

I may be in over my head. Can't think of a way to reproduce the bug AND simultaneously save the TS, if there's no way to do it within GB-PVR.

Unfortunately I'm fairly sure it only works with Twinhan cards.

I'll see if I give a GB-PVR option in the next release for record full transport streams.

You wouldnt need to have GB-PVR running, just the TS capture tool. It would be chance that we captured the problem occurring, which is why I said you'd probably need to record a few large recordings - hopefully long enough for the problem to occur.

I may not bother with the Twinhan tool; it looks very slick but like you said, very driver-specific.

A GB-PVR option would be great.

Regarding the problem, I was watching a usually 100% ATSC channel last night via Live TV (selected from EPG). The weather was especially windy, which always wreaks havoc with reception. Sure enough, I got some freezes and dropouts. Ctrl-O revealed a few signal/quality drops from 100->25%. On one occasion, GBPVR.exe crashed. I'll bet this was due to a similar problem. It might be easier to reproduce than I thought.

I'll keep an eye out for free TS capture tools.
