Quote:The analog tuner in the direct.ini that SHS supplied was using "INIT_MODE=ECPPP" but in your new version it is "INIT_MODE=ECP" which matches most of the other analog Hauppauge cards. I have no idea which is correct on this
It should be ECP. I think someone had a case of heavy sausage fingers, or maybe a 'P' key that sticks on their keyboard.

Quote:The settings in bda.ini that would match filtercheck.exe should be
PIN_CAPTURE_IN=Mpeg2 Transport
PIN_CAPTURE_OUT=Mpeg2 Transport
Rather than Input0 and Output1. I don't know if either setting makes a difference in normal operation however.
I suspect it doesnt matter, but I'll update the bda.ini anyway. These specific names are only used if it cant auto detect the correct pins.

Cheers for the observations.

I see Hauppauge is listing the HVR 1600 as a product now. (Although no one seems to have it in stock yet). It appears from the above conversation to be compatible out of the box, but I just wanted to verify that it is a "mainstream" card and compatible with GBPVR (I guess it is too new for the wiki). Any possible concerns?

Not knowing much about ATSC, but can the MVP play the SD and/or the HD content captured on a digital card?

Thanks!

Aswell as this thread, I've had some feedback from Hauppauge about it working fine with GB-PVR. Its sounds like a good device.

No, the MVP can not play HD content, or videos with AC3 audio tracks. (well, not entirely true - there is a new setting to try transcoding it on the fly to a lower resolution MPEG2 file during MVP playback, but this requires quite a bit of CPU grunt)

Over at AVS someone indicated that CompUSA would be the first with the product which is slated to be announced at the CES in Vegas.

It uses BDA drivers for the ATSC side and has a Conexant chip for the analog side so GB-PVR seems to work OK. Most of my problems stem from using an unsupported OS (Windows 2000) and old graphic card (GF3 Ti200) which is fine for SD but just doesn't cut it for HD in software (which is why I have the MyHD for playback); so don't take any of my difficulties as representative problems. I am hoping that getting a video card with some HD hardware acceleration (thinking 6600 or 7600 based card) will solve most of my hiccups. I've also just revamped my antenna system since the tuner is no where near as sensitive as the MyHD and poor reception seems to upset the card a lot.

I've not had any problems with the analog or SD ATSC portion, so I think my HD ATSC problems are GPU and system related.

Hauppauge has concentrated on XP, MCE, and VISTA drivers and applications. Native software (WinTV2k) only supports one tuner at a time but third party applications (like GB-PVR) will allow both tuners to record simultaneously. (MCE, SAGE, and others probably do also) QAM is not supported yet but "Clear QAM will be supported in the next spin." but no explanation as to whether it will only take a firmware upgrade (Device manager identifies it as an "ATSC-Combo+QAM" card) or if it will require different hardware.

echo "sub" on this, the MVP (even with the S/PDIF connection) won't pass AC3 audio. It will play the 704x480 (USA) SD video portion but HDTV (and the audio) would have to be transcoded or converted.

This card is definitely a "mainstream GBPVR" device. I just picked one up at Circuit City and installed it in my recording/server box.

It took me a little while to get it configured correctly, but I just recorded 2 regular analog cable shows and an off the air atsc show at the same time using this card and a single pvr-150 card. The only shows on my local stations this morning were sd so I don't know yet if my box can handle 2 cable feeds and an off-the-air HD all at the same time.

I'm using the ts-mux with the hdtvpump filter and recording to a .tp stream on the off the air side of the card.

Some current comments have had people opening up a PVR150 retail box and finding an HVR1600 inside and someone with a defective 150 getting a 1600 in return.

I wonder what is going to happen if someone needs Windows2000 support when Hauppauge sends them an XP only 1600 as a replacement (or they get one in a 150 box).

So how do you configure the ATSC HD tuner for the HVR-1600 ? Config shows Hauppauge HVR-1600 (Analog), but I see no mention of the ATSC tuner. I have the analog side working, but still no OTA HD. Do I need to add something to bda.ini for the ATSC tuner?

You should see it listed if create a new capture source, and set it to use the 'BDA Recording Plugin'.

So, do you need to install two new capture sources for this card - one for analog and one for ATSC?
What, me worry?
