I would like to provide a streaming webcam on my web server.
Anyone that can advice me on what free software to use?
The stream should be almost realtime so windows media encoder seems less usable because of the big lag that Windows Media player introduces.

I'd be surprised if you couldn't achieve this with VLC, but I've never tried it.
I'm not always right

VLC works but at the receiving side I rather not use Windows Media Players because of the large delay when buffering.
I need at the receiving side a simple url people can click on. (possibly a java applet that gets loaded)

How about an IP camera with its own little built-in "web-server". It could provide stills (jpegs) or a stream which you can access via java or axtive-x.

I know, a very nice solution, but I am cheap and I do already have a webcam, and a server.
Is there any way to convert a webcam input into a RTP stream that can be played without too much lag?

Sorry, wouldn't have a clue. I've seen the ip-cameras from around 130 Euros.

In the past I've used Fwink. It's light and free.

For video I've used NSV from nullsoft. It works well for streaming video.
