Hi all,

A little confused, but does ComCut work with Showanalyzer? I'll get a chance to try a few tests over the weekend myself hopefully!

Nice looking app BTW!

Slice,

I can say for certain.. ComCut does work with ShowAnalyzer... using the ComSkip output from it... the only problem I have had with ComCut is failing on files and not enough information as to what the failure was... other than that.. this ComCut is a GREAT addition to the commercial skipping/removing family...

I have received the error message 'MPEG2Cut - mpgtx exited with error code 1' on all my recordings except one, so I've found and read through this thread but with my limited understanding of the software I can't figure out what was concluded. A lot of discussion concerned ShowAnalyzer but I'm not using that.

A summary of my setup & process is:
GBPVR 0.99.5
Comskip 0.79.7
Comcut 1.2 Build 81
All installed in the standard c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr

I've tried different mpg files (all generated with GBPVR from a Hauppauge PVR 150) and used two different computers (the second one being a laptop loaded with the video software but to which I copied the mpg's from the desktop fitted with the PVR150) . As the error message & error.log say that "Output file may already exist or commercials have already been removed." I've looked for duplicate file names and re-run Comskip but had no change.

I originally tried Comclean but it just ended the process without achieving anything, and while looking for a forum thread on it I found Comcut, which has a better user interface for me.

Cheers

That error means that mgptx wasn't able to remove the commercials. If you want to see exactly why mpgtx failed, you'll find the command line in the error.log file.

The log contains the following, telling me that the output file may already exist or commercials have already been removed, which is what the error message has already said:
28/01/2007 3:04:27 p.m. - MPEG2Cut - mpgtx exited with error code 1

The "Command Line" part is what you want to run. Open a command prompt (Start -> Run... -> cmd) and paste in the command:
Code:
"C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\mpgtx.exe" -j -f -o "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\American Pie The Wedding_20061102_20302235.comskip.mpg" "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\American Pie The Wedding_20061102_20302235.mpg" [-0:2:23] [0:4:11-0:41:15] [0:45:16-0:52:39] [0:56:40-1:5:5] [1:9:24-1:18:59] [1:22:59-1:29:37] [1:33:41-1:44:5] [1:48:5-1:55:8] [1:59:32-2:6:29]

That will give you the mpgtx output message.

P.S. I have tried capturing that output programmatically in ComCut, but I haven't had much luck. I'll keep working on it.

Did you try to redirect stderr?

mpgtx ....... >>output.log 2>>error.log
(I think)
there is an example in the comclean wiki entry

I'm not running the programs through the command interpreter, I'm just executing the program directly. There are ways to redirect the standard output programmatically, but it doesn't seem to work really well. I'll work it back into the code and see if it works to at least capture the error messages.

But why not execute through the CMD.exe?

execute "CMD.exe /c ......(rest of command) >>stdout.log 2>>stderr.log"
