Something I've long wanted and others have asked for too is the ability to mark commercials with my remote. My machine is dedicated to GB-PVR and I use it from the couch, so I hate to get up and get my keyboard and mouse out of the cabinet when I need to edit my commercials breaks. After a little testing and some special help from Erik, the developer of Comskip, there's no need for that anymore.

I've put together a short guide for how to launch Comskip's commercials editing window from within GB-PVR and control it with a Hauppauge remote. You can find it here, a zipped file in RTF format. (Use Window's Wordpad to view). Downloading the latest 79.63 or later version of Comskip will be most helpful as Erik changed the way the Comskip edit window is titled to make setup easier, but it's not absolutely required as explained in the guide.

If you have questions, find any errors or have some suggestions, feel free to post them. I'll do my best to assist.

P.S. This only works with GB-PVR and a video card. This doesn't work with the PVR-350's output and doesn't allow editing via the MVP.

too cool dude....quite usefull that...Big Grin
great explaination for the newbies too...

i was so glad that Sub made those silly transcode buttons, immediately i saw the slew of possibilities spring up...and now that there's direct exe support, it will all be much easier to make... for instance, just a few lines in a batch file could make a simple [or complex!] archive function for old shows...eg. moving shows and keeping all the info etc.

i'll see if i can't contribute a key mapping for HIP with MCE remotes...Big Grin
but i guess if you kow how to setup your HIP, then you probably can do the translation yourself...Smile

good work mon! Big Grin

question!

Why does it out put only to TXT? I use (and I thought most of us use) edl files for mencoder to rip out the commercials on conversion.

Can you make it update the edl as well?

Comskip will write whatever output file you configure it to do, in it's INI file. When your tell comskip to write out your changes (Record button with the remote, W from the keyboard), it writes out all the output formats it normally does. If you found it didn't, that's probably because you overwrote your comskip.ini file when you downloaded the latest version. That's what I did anyway. Smile

Good question. I think Comskip works on DVR-MS files but since I don't record in that format, I'm not certain. You could head over to the Comskip site and see what it says.
