I am new to this, and I have quite a few questions, but I will start off with just a couple. First, I have a 3 GHz pentium system with 1 GB RAM and plenty of hard drive space. I have a WinTV-PVR-150 card in the computer that I am currently using with the software that came in the box with the card. I am very satisfied where I am, but there are a few things I would like to be able to do.

First, I would like to be able to use the computer while watching something that I have recorded. It looks like to me that most video cards output whatever is on the computer screen. This would not allow me to watch something while at the same time using the comptuer. Will GB-PVR solve this problem?

Second, I want recording control more like a TIVO. I would like to be able to tell the PVR to find and record all of a certain TV show, or only new versions of a certain show. Is this possible with PVR?

I really want the first thing I mentioned here. I am tired of burning DVDs to watch recorded programs on the television. I am also considering using one of the drive enclosures that plays back MPEG files to the television. Not the optimal solution, but I think it would work.

Thanks for the answers,

I just found the Happauge MediaMVP. I see that it is supported by GB-PVR. Are both the wired and wireless versions supported? This looks like what I need.

Just another thought. Since GBPVR works with the Hauppauge unit would it not work with any network media server. Seems the only thing the MediaMVP server would do is allow GB-PVR to go out over the network.

Just a thought.

Thanks again,

The MVP is the only network-device GBPVR can work with and of course it can work with a client= a network computer.
Afaict you can fulfill all your wishes with GBPVR. The MVP will enhance the possibilities of course.
Did you already find the wiki, there is a lot of info there.:

No, GBPVR will not solve that problem per se. You would need a graphics card that can "handle" two desktops at once, and then you can put gbpvr on one desktop (which is output to your tv), and your other apps on another desktop (which you output to your computer screen).

The first one is possible (heck, even what's this is all about Smile) and the second one is sort of possible if you live in the states and zap2it gives gbpvr the correct information. Check around the forums here, it's been discussed a lot.

Yes, the MVP solves your "desktop problem". Both are supported.

Well, basically you are correct in your assumption that "that is all it does", but no other media server lets gbpvr go out over the network. All other media servers only allow media to go out over the network. Not GBPVR's GUI.
