Hello Guys,

I am still trying to work on getting these mpeg-2 files over 12 gigs compressed and converted? to fit on a single dvd. I can't seem to find the right program to do this. I have tried some of the trail versions. Sometimes these won't even recognize the mpeg-2 file. I don't mind paying for the program as long as the quality would be there.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Doesn't Nero Recode do this?

If there is a problem plugging other software on the forum... feel free to delete this post. I use ConvertXtoDVD to convert all my recordings to DVD. It down-converts large files to fit on a single DVD (I think it does support single and dual layer DVDs). I also use VideoReDo to remove commercials. Neither are free but are worth every penny if you burn shows to DVD often.

VideoReDo
If you need guides, go to VideoHelp - Convert and search for ConvertXtoDVD or VideoReDo.

I experimented with the trial version of that software. Very easy to use, but the output to DVD is awful. During action scenes it is very blurry. I know the water mark is on the video but it comes on and off every minute so I am able to see the final product.

Do you think that it can be my GBPVR settings?

Do the recordings come out clear for you?

12 gigs to 4.7 gigs? That is probably too much compression. You might want to settle for 2 DVDs.

how much do you want to compress the files? if you try to get a single layer DVD out of a 12GB recording you won't be able to get good quality. that's way to much compression involved (it's a quantity vs quality trade off)

Your right too big. But I recorded the fights last weekend, medium quality,
file was a little over 4.6 gigs. I still used the DivXtoDVD program to convert to a DVD file. It worked great jsut the quality of the video is crappy. Do you think that it could be my GBPVR settings?

Or has anybody else tried any other software?

I am not sure? Has anyone had any trouble converting their files?

Are you saying you converted an mpeg recording to Divx then tried converting back to MPEG(DVD)? If so, that is part of your problem. Medium quality is fine for normal television with a setup like mine. For sports high quality is preferred.

I am not sure if the software does both conversions to get it to a DVD file? I guess too much conversion would cause this?

When I use the software I choose to create a DVD file. I don't choose to convert to a divx file first, then a DVD file. I will always choose to record in high quality for futurre sports recordings.

I've had no problems where things come out "blurry." The one thing I don't like it that the program uses interlaced encoding. I only see that when I'm using WinDVD or PowerDVD for some reason. That's where I get the 'comb' effect at the edge of the moving images. But I also get that with DVDs that come out of Pinnacle Studio. On any set-top DVD player, the DVDs produced from this program look as good as it does on cable, others have commented to me on that as well. Reading on the ConvertXtoDVD forums, there's no way to change it to progressive encoding. They claim there is no other program that does progressive encoding.

The only time the DVDs come out crappy is when I'm putting 3 - 1 hour shows on one DVD to take on the road but that's expected because the bitrate is around 1mbps.

I don't know about your settings. I've used both the default Medium and High settings in GBPVR and produced great DVDs with that program.

Also, the DivXtoDVD is now the ConvertXtoDVD program.
