Hi everyone, I have just received a MediaMVP for my birthday and I am trying to set it up. My network setup is a little bit unusual and I think it is causing a problem where the MediaMVP cannot see the GB-PVR server and connect to it. I'd be grateful if anyone could lend any advice; I think my problem is the fact that I don't know which ports to forward for the MVP to communicate w/ my computer. Anyhow, here is some more info about my network setup.
I have a D-Link switch that is connected to my cable modem through the WAN port. This D-Link switch is by the TV and connects to the MediaMVP as well as to my roommate's video game consoles and an Airport Express. The Airport Express then connects wirelessly to my computer which is running GB-PVR.
The D-Link switch is a DHCP server and doles out IP addresses of the range 192.168.0.xxx and the Airport Express has a static IP of 192.168.0.5. Then, the Airport Express is also a DHCP server and doles out IP addresses in the range 10.0.1.xxx but my GB-PVR desktop has the static IP address 10.0.1.200.
Since the MediaMVP is connected to the D-Link switch, it sends out a broadcast on 192.168.0.xxx looking for servers. When the Airport Express on 192.168.0.5 receives this broadcast, I would like it to forward the request to my computer on 10.0.1.200. However, I don't know which ports to forward to my computer. I believe if I chose the right ports to forward, the MediaMVP would just see that there is an MVP server present on 192.168.0.5 and not even realize that it is actually another sub-network.
I can look at the status of the D-Link switch and see the things connected to it. Currently, the MediaMVP has received the IP address of 192.168.0.101 and I can ping it from my computer. However, when the MediaMVP sends out its broadcast looking for servers, it is not finding my computer; probably because the ports are being blocked by the Airport Express.
I hope this makes sense to everyone and is not too confusing. I have disabled the Windows Firewall on my desktop and also tried to install the default Hauppauge MediaMVP software. However, nothing has helped and I have never been able to get the MediaMVP to connect to my computer. If anyone knows the ports that need to be forwarded or has other advice regarding my network setup, I would be very grateful! Thanks!
