Hey Jeff,
Maybe I'm missing something, but ever since I upgraded to the latest version of Video Archive, when I start the app it defaults to an entry labled "Up to Main List", and I can't arrow off of it. I can page up or down, and then navigate normally, but I can't seem to do anything while sitting on this entry. At the risk of sounding stupid, what's it there for? It used to default to What's New, which I really liked. Now I have to fight to get there.

What's up?

Thanks,
Kevin

P.S. I really love Video Archive, I just don't get this latest change.

I assume you are using the test version? if so, this is a bug that found its way into the last test version. I have fixed it in the latest version, however I can't post it since along with that change I moved the database to SQLite (from Access) and I have not completed testing to make sure I have got everything working on the new platform. I just above things stable enough on my development machine that I am going to try to load it on my home machine (to go through the kid testing stage). If it runs there without problem for a few days I will post it as an updated test version.

Thanks, Jeff, that explains a lot. I didn't think that I had grabbed the tets version the last time, but I must have clicked the wrong link. I was wondering when you were going to make the jump to SQLite.

Hey, on a completely different note, is there an easy way to group videos in Video Archive? I would love to group them by genre, for example, instead of just sorting them by title. My kids have a lot of cartoons that I would love to all have in one place on screen, even though they may be all over my system physically. Any ideas?

Thanks again,
Kevin

One way to group things is through a common sub directory structure. I do this to group my kids things. On each drive I have a "Kids" subdirectory under my main DVD path and then sub directories for various cartoons. The files are then in these second level subdirectories. The plug-in collects files across all drives and groups them based on subdirectory name.

OK, that sounds cool, only how do I get the videos into the sub directories without messing up the GBPVR database links and losing all of the video information (When recorded, show description, etc.)

I'm assuming that I could set up my primary archive location to point to the directory that I want and then move them one by one, but seems like a pain. Is there an easier way?

Thanks for the help,
Kevin

Once the files are in the video archive database (which I assume they are if you are using the plug-in) you can just move them over in Windows via file move. The plug-in will automatically adjust to their new locations. You can then export the VA database using the Export VA Records.exe utility and reimport them into gbpvr via the config utility to get the new locations into gbpvr. I would recommend backing up both the gbpvr and video archive databases before hand so that should something go wrong you can roll things back manually.
