Hey guys. I'm trying to use the onboard IR remote of my WinTV-PVR-150 (model 1045) working and am running into problems. To be honest, I tried getting it to work a year and a half ago when I bought it and never had any success so I just used the old serial IR receiver I had built previously.

I've installed the IR remote control software (v 2.45) and I guess it is working. I see a little remote icon in my system bar. I tried installing WINTV2000, but when I go to run it, I get the following error:

WinTV Initalization Error! A required component (hcwTVWnd.dll) is missing.

Can someone help me to remedy this situation? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

It seems that the beta drivers I am/was using was the source of the error. I've uninstalled the drivers and am installing the drivers from Hauppauge's site. Hopefully this will also 'fix' my problem with the IR.

Okay, so I've got WIN2000 up and running and install the remote drivers and all appears to run without problem. The remote is still not working. It does not work in WIN2000 and GBPVR.

Is there any app that I can use to test to see where the problem lies? I realize that my original post did not get any responses and I know that this is not a hardware support forum, but I would REALLY appreciate if someone could offer some suggestions even if it is only educated guesses.

Thanks

Here's what my Irremote.ini file says about debugging.
Code:
; to use this, open notepad with a document name of debug.txt and set focus to it.
; debug.txt= must be uncommented in [applications] section as well.
[Debug.txt]
You should then see all the buttons you press appear inside the notepad window.

Sounds silly but on my PC the hauppauge pvr-150's remote connector is so close to the side of the slot opening's edge that the connector's notch needs to be rotated properly for it to seat properly.

Thank you for the tips. I just tried the Debug.txt trick and I'm not getting anything Sad .

I do know what you mean about the plug. It has a beveled edge that lets you plug it in all the way. I do have the IR blaster portion working. Well, I can't say that it is working with my set top but it is flashing red.

I'm really at a loss as it seems to the receiver/transmitter are plugged in right (led is flashing on sender). I'm using brand new batteries and I'm putting the remote within an inch of the receiver.

If anyone knows of anything else I can try, I'm all ears. Is there any nonhauppauge software I can use to try and diagnose the problem?

You wouldn't happen to have a Sony video camera with the nite shot feature would you? There are probably other cameras that can do this as well.
That can see the IR on the remote perfectly. I use mine to debug whether the remote is putting anything out or not.

Some digital cameras will see IR as well. The trend has been toward less IR though. Give yours a try with a known good remote and the Hauppauge and see if you can see anything when you press a button.
Best to go in a dark room and see what shows up.

EDIT: This doesn't tell you that the IR remote has the right pulse width and frequency but it is a gross go/nogo test.

I hadn't noticed the comment that you used a hand built serial IR receiver previously.
Did the Hauppauge remote work with that?

Thanks for the tip pastro. I do know that the remote is sending IR signals. I tested it by pointing it at my Radio Shack remote extender and the led on the RS receiver lights up when I push a button so I know that the remote is at least sending something.

This is all pretty frustrating as you can probably imagine. I'd really hate to spend extra money on a different hardware solution, but I'm starting to think that may be the only way I'll get things working. I've already started looking. I'm thinking about getting a USB-Uirt IR Blaster if I can't get things working Sad

I know a friend of mine bought an MCE remote and receiver off ebay for a decent price. He did have some issue with XP since he doesn't have MCE but he eventually found the driver that allowed the USB receiver to work and it worked in GBPVR.

Anybody you know near you that has the Hauppauge IR receiver so you can swap a known good one in to isolate whether the failure is board/software related or the receiver?

The card doesn't have the usb version of the receiver/transmitter. Mine connects to the back of the pvr150 itself via a miniplug (1/16th I think).
