I want to resize the video to fit to the screen going through my MVP but I do not want it to cut off the sides. My screen is 4x3 and a lot of my video is 16x9. I am fine with there being black bars on the top and bottom. I'm not really sure how to do this. All my video is cropped and quite a bit of the sides is cut off.

GB-PVR has very little say over the aspect ratio control on the MVP. What you describe is the normal behaviour of the Hauppauge software that runs on the MVP when you play a 16x9 video and you're MVP is configured for 4x3.

The only way I've found to play 16:9 videos in letterbox mode on my mvp is to re-encode them with ffmpeg and to put the appropriate padding at the top and bottom of the image.

For example, I recently discovered the series "Heroes", and wanted to catch-up with the earlier episodes that I had missed. I found them on usenet, as xvid encoded avi files, with a resolution of 624x352. I transcoded them with the following ffmpeg command line:

Code:
ffmpeg.exe -i "input file name.avi" -target ntsc-svcd -ar 48000 -ab 192 -ac 2 -aspect 4:3 -s 720x404 -padtop 38 -padbottom 38 "output file name.mpg"
Intel Core i7-4790 / 32GB RAM / Windows 10 Pro 64 bit / HDHomeRun CONNECT DUO Model: HDHR5-2US
