I finally got it going. If I do violate the rules please delete the post. I tried app after app and finally I fond TMPGenc. It is a converter app that suits whatt I need to do. I think it is made buy Tsunami? But this little app works great. They also have a DVD authoring tool that wark very well also.

Quality (which was at the top of my list) is very good! Plus I was able to shrink down a 7 gig file to fit on a DVD. Next I will try one of the big files (12 gig) and try it then.

TMPGenc takes a lot longer than Rejig and isn't as good. That is what I used to use. Their DVD Authoring tool seems pretty nice though. Another thing you can do is Author the DVD at whatever size then use DVDshrink to get it down to size. 7 GB to 4.7 GB is ok. Even 9 to 4.7 is ok. I don't think there is any way you can get 12 to 4.7 and have good quality.

I am going to look into rejig! Is it free? Yes your are right about Tmpgenc taking an awful long time. But the interface is pretty straight foward.

Rejig can be confusing. I am not at home to go through how to transcode an mpeg2 file. Look around http://www.videohelp.com for that. DVDshrink is just as good and fast as Rejig but you have to author first, but might be easier for you.

I quick tutorial would be awesome, I was looking at the interface, not much there, kind of confusing...

I just tried to run a file through rejig, it was pretty quick, but I too am at work and cannot really test it!

I think that's a bit rude to say, TMPGenc is a very well known encoder which with big compression probably deals better than Rejig because it really encodes the movie again, not just transcoding.
But it's also wellknown for it's speed:eek:

Question, Does rejig have to split the file into video and audio parts? Once I get used to it I guess I wouldn't mind. But how or what do I use to get the files back together and into a DVD file? It states to mux it?

Is rejig able to just create a DVD quality mp2 file so I can author it easily into a DVD file?

Back to my findings...

When I use TMPGEnc it works very good. Quality is ranks up there. The only thing is that it takes a hell of a lot of time encode (is that the right term?) the files.
When using rejig it is very very fast compared to Tmpgenc. The only thing it is a little too complicated to get the files back together and authored in this program. Plus I think I would be able to get better support. Even though this program is free and fast I am leaning toward TMPGenc.
