Hi, I've a question regarding standby functionality. From several topics I understand that gbpvr can wake up the pc when it needs to start recording. What I've tried is to standby the machine (suspend to memory) and then wait until the machine was woken up...but it never was. What kind of setup is needed to make this work?

I know this works from hibernate, never tried stanby. Hibernate uses less power consumption, anyway, check your bios settings to see if it is set up to wake on certain activities.

You could also schedule a windows task in the windows scheduler to see if it can wake the machine as well

Cheers,
Colin.

Thanks Colin, the scheduled task tip really helped! Good way to test things. I've turned on "Wake up on rtc alarm" in the bios (power settings) and then it worked.

Hey Hugo,

good stuff. GBPVR works really well in waking machine up, recording, etc. I have a power profile setup to put the machine back to sleep after about 5 minutes of idle time. This works fine for me.

Cheers,
Colin.

Indeed great stuff. I've changed to gbpvr because mythtv gave me poor quality video on my epia m10000 (dunno why). Also my network usb dongle wasn't detected. Mythtv also had the option to shutdown and wake up, so I'm glad this is working now too [Image: smile.gif]

I'm now figuring out how to make use of the hardware mpeg decoder on the CLE 266 chipset my epia has since cpu usage is a bit high. But thats another issue I might open a new topic for [Image: smile.gif]

The EPIAs dont really have a hardware mpeg decoder. Its more like a mpeg hardware assist. Some extra instructions for processing some of the transformations that need to occur when processing mpeg streams.

To use it you need to have PowerDVD v5.x installed. This installs the Cyberlink Mpeg2 decoder onto you system, which is capable of using these hardware assist features.

Even after this the CPU usage will be quite high, but may help a little bit.

Ah great info sub. I've also read some info on changing a reg setting for the intervideo codec and using overlay mode. If I try this however with gb prv I get 4 small tv windows with the rest of the screen noise or a solid color. It should work with got tv pvr or something so I might try that. First I'm trying the powerdvd codec, I should have that one installed...

-edit-

CPU is now around 65% live tv at 720x576 so I'm happy! Almost the same figures as the "reghack" for the intervideo codec. (but not verified). Since this seems to work ok now and I'm not getting gottv to tune any channels I'll stick to this [Image: smile.gif]

If you need more info on the intervideo-regedit-noise thing just let me know [Image: smile.gif]

I have managed to get GBPVR to 'wake from hibernate' (WinXPSP1) and record programmes.  I have set the PC to hibernate after 5 minutes so the PC hibernates 5 minutes after the recoding has finished.  Great stuff.

A couple of follow up questions though:-

1 The Bleb EPG auto update feature does not seem to trigger 'wake from hibernate'.  I know basic feature works since if I leave the PC on overnight the GBPVR gathers updated EPG data from the Bleb site.  So how to make this trigger a wake up call?

2 I am curious to know how the PC knows that a wake up from hibernate event (record a programme) has been initiated since the PC is powered down during hibernate.  Clearly I don't fully understand the hiberate process and how wake up calls are stored and triggered.  Perhaps someone can point me to a site; or even explain.  Thanks

You could create a scheduled task for it. You can tick a checkbox to let the machine be woken up if needed. Run gbpvr.exe -OnlyUpdateEPG" from this task.
