I'm trying to setup my firefly remote to change the channel on my dish receiver. In the capture source that I setup, I believe that I have to create a link to the Firefly software used to control the remote. I tried doing this by setting the "Channel Changer" option to ".exe Changer Plugin". Then I clicked on settings. In that window I set the Executable to be "C:\Program Files\SnapStream Media\Firefly\Firefly.exe" and Parameters to be "{channel}". However, this did not work. I tried linking to other executables in the same directory but none of them worked.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Is the Firefly also have an IR Blaster? I'd not heard this before.

Isnt it just a remote?

Yes, it has a usb device that plugs into the computer and receives the RF signal from the remote.

The way you describe that, to me it sounds like a receiver more than a blaster.

Can you get it to work outside of gbpvr, for example by entering "C:\Program Files\SnapStream Media\Firefly\Firefly.exe 4" in a command line window and make it change channels on your STB?

I am trying to find online some place that sells the firefly with a blaster, but can't seem to be able to. Where did you get yours?

Yeah, I'm fairly sure its just remote and IR Receiver, not an IR Blaster. This means it can be used for controlling GB-PVR, but GB-PVR will have no way to control your dish receiver. For that you'd need to add an IR Blaster to your setup - something like a USB-UIRT (http://www.usbuirt.com/).

The Firefly doesn't use IR - it uses RF. It comes with a USB RF receiver that plugs into the computer. An IR blaster will definitely be needed to control an IR device.

You might be able to do something like this but I think it's beyond my technical capability Smile

I purchased it at the following link: http://store.snapstream.com/firefly.html

You're probably right...I have no clue what the difference is between a receiver and a blaster. I guess I always thought they were the same thing. Sounds like the blaster is used to control other set top boxes. So if I purchase a USB-UIRT blaster, I'm assuming it won't work with my RF remote since it probably only works with IR, right? So my firefly RF remote is probably worthless then and I'll have to find another IR remote to replace it?

Correct

They're entirely separate things. You'll continue to use your firefly remote and it's RF receiver unit for controlling the application, just as you are two. It'd then separately use the new USB-UIRT as a IR Blaster. There is no interaction between the two at all. One is all about input, the other is about controlling external set top boxes.
