Hi folks,

I recently upgraded my main box to an AMD X2 4200 with a Sapphire Theatre 550-based tuner card and decided to install GB-PVR. Everything works fine except on about every third boot, the system tray icon loads, but the recording service dies in an unusual way: I'll right-click on the GB icon and the menu takes up to 5 seconds to load (it's usually instantaneous), then when I click on Show Status, it shows me EIGHT capture sources! That'd be nice, but I only have the ONE! Smile Clicking on Restart Recording Service fixes the problem, but if I don't check it, it'll never record (just creates an entry with the FAILED flag).

I've been using GB-PVR as a stand-alone system on "older" PCs and haven't had this kind issue before. Software is the same on all my boxes: XP Pro SP2, gig of RAM, Theater 550 cards, Avast! Anti-virus. Only difference is that all other systems are single-core CPUs while the one that gives me this odd glitch is a dual-core.

I've got all the latest drivers, running v0.99.5, with the latest BIOS for my mobo, too...

Ideas?

Thanks!

What plugins have you go installed? That multiple capture devices thing happened to me when I installed X-Record. I got rid of it, reinstalled the card, and it hasn't happened again.

I've got no plugins, actually. I'm running it pretty much out-of-the-box... Dunno if you consider ComSkip a plugin, but I do have that installed.

This normally happens if the recording service is not running.

I'm wonder if it was caused by this: http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=1...ostcount=2

Either way, zip and attach the logs next time it happens, and I'll take a look.

Here are the logs from this morning, when it happened again upon a cold boot.

If you did a reboot of the computer, and your recordingservice was running, then you would have had a GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log with today's timestamp, which you don't. So it seems that for some reason the recording service didn't start before you asked the tray icon for information.

I'd guess that you for some reason have the recording service set to be started manually, when it should in fact be automatically.

Windows start menu->Settings->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services. Locate GB-PVR Recording Service, right click and choose properties. See to it that it is set to "Automatic" startup type.

Checked. It's set to Auto.

I'm going to try a reinstall later today and see if that changes anything...

You could also look in the Windows Event Viewer to see if there was any reason it couldnt start the Recording Service.

I uninstalled 99.05 and upgraded to 99.12, and I get the same error. When I go to Event Viewer, I get an Event ID 7009: "Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the GB-PVR Recording Service service to connect."

I've set First and Second failure recovery to "Restart service" in services.msc...
