First, awesome plug-in. I installed it a week ago and absolutely love it.

But, here's a few issues I've come across in the week I've been using it. I've been able to work around all of them, so for me, they're relatively minor. I'm using the Access database, which is easier for me to edit and clean up tags and manually add tracks that weren't scanned.

1. Album name tags aren't read for .wma files.
2. .flac files aren't scanned (I haven't looked for .ogg). Edit: .ogg files are scanned.
3. If an album title contains a single quote ('), e.g., Joe's Garage, Jumpin' Jive, Paul's Boutique, Can't Buy a Thrill, etc., the track titles aren't displayed in the player, although they show when selecting 'all' tracks for the artist. The album itself can't be played. The tracks are still added when scanning, so this just affects playback. I worked around this by substituting a smart quote (’Wink for the single quote in the database.
4. The scan choked on a very long track name and wouldn't complete. The track on my system is a .wma file with a title tag of "The Black Hawk War, or, How to Demolish an Entire Civilization and Still Feel Good About Yourself in the Morning, or, We Apologize for the Inconvenience But You're Going to" (although the actual song name is much longer).
5. Album names for excluded files still show in the player for an artist. For example, for songs on some albums, I may also have a single song on my server that was also on a Greatest Hits disk. I have excluded the file in the database (both by using noindex.txt and manually changing the excluded field to -1), but "Greatest Hits" still shows in the album list in the player with no tracks in the track listing. I worked around this by changing the album field for the tracks in the database to an existing album name for that artist.
6. Some track numbers for '10' and '20' are truncated to '1' and '2' when scanning. I haven't found a pattern to determine why this occurs, but it seems to happen about 60-70% of the time.

If the log is persistent, I can attach it for you later. Again, these are minor, and overall, I love your plug-in.

Welcome to ML2!!

Strange, but WMA can use two different titles for that tag, I think for artist i check both, for album i don't think i check a secondary. If you turn on insane logging and external logs this should highlight all of the fields in use and confirm what i just said.

MarvinDog Wrote:2. .flac files aren't scanned (I haven't looked for .ogg). Edit: .ogg files are scanned.

Not sure if my reader supports .flac, but even if they are, I haven't entered it as an "allowed" extension. I will verify for the next release.

I did have some issues in the previous release with quotes and the like I've hopefully sorted these out

Hmm, I thought my fields were pretty large, can you get an exact count of the characters for the album artist and title fields for me?

This will be an oversight, I don't think when I'm checking for album names do i actually verify if the tracks are excluded or not..will fix.

Ok, I'll have to look, strikes me as odd, what type of track wma or anything else, i only ask because i have mp3 tracks and I use track numbers in the hundreds 287 288 etc. And these are not trucated...

I'll turn on insane logging, nuke the db, do a rescan (after putting my good database in a safe place) and upload the logs this weekend.

The 10, 20 issue is a bit of a stumper-- I can't find a pattern for it-- it does it with both mp3s and wmas-- but not all of them. I've checked the tags on the ones that have been truncated and the tags are fine. Hopefully the insane logs will show the issue.

Oh, and the player plays flac files just fine.

I turned on IS logging, but didn't restart config, so I didn't get the logs. I'll do it again and repost. But, here's the first bit of the info.

The 10, 20 issue didn't repeat, but that may be an XP Pro/Win2000 Pro issue. That is, I scanned with my GB-PVR machine, which is on Windows 2000 Pro, and I originally scanned/created the database with an XP Pro machine. I'll do the rescan with the XP Pro machine.

Here's an insanely stupid log. Wow-- it got huge. And another database. Once the scan choked on the long title, it doesn't continue.

Oh, and I couldn't get the 10, 20 thing to repeat, even on the XP Pro machine.

Hmm, I see the error, don't know why it's not trapped. That's a REALLY long title.

I have it set at 255, which is the largest an mdb can take as a string. If I switch it to a memo or something I may have problems with compatibility with sqllite and MS Access. I'll have a look an see what I can do.

I typed it in manually, so for me, it's not a big deal. I wouldn't have expected this to be an issue with song titles-- who gives a song a title that long? Then again, Sufjan Stevens has 48 more albums planned. Smile

I figured out my 10, 20 numbering issue-- User Error. I got it to repeat this weekend. I added a bunch of new albums, and while manually cleaning up the database, I went to remove the zero track numbers for wma files so I could more easily manually add the track numbers. Instead of selecting "Whole Field" for the Match, I had "Any Part of Field," which changed 10s and 20s to 1 and 2.
