The best HD mux appears to be the DVR-MS but it is part of XP. I had it working under 2000 for a day, then it stopped.
The TS Mux option also works well with ATSC, but you need to have HDTV Pump installed to playback the recordings.

Sorry guys tomorrow never came, but the root canal and following flu bug did come. Hoping to get back on this proj. soon. Since ya need Hdtv OTA that won't work for me I live in a dead zone. So it will have to use the other side of the card, anolog. I'll try it first in the machine I built for it first with 2000 and if that doesn't work I have a machine running XP Pro, But I'm not a big fan of Xp. I had alot of probs with a twinhan sat dvb card and XP and finally went with 2000, So was hoping to start there with this one.

Just make sure you get the Win2000 driver from SHSPVR (link in earlier post). I had to rebuild my system from scratch following a disasterous video card installation and the analog side has been flawless. I stick to SD digital on the HVR and use a MYHD card for full HD, especially since it has QAM tuner capabilities. (I recorded "Lost" and "Medium" in HD simultaneously for a friend last night)

Not yet, I've had something recording almost every night and I'm in the first stages of a 6 hour session on SciFi right now. I'm creating an archive of SG-1 (and Special Unit 2). I'm way too cheap to buy DVD sets of multi season shows. (and I've learned to ignore popups, logos, and bugs) I've gotten X-Files, Good Eats, Farscape, Deep Space 9, and The Three Stooges so far. Babylon 5 and Red Dwarf were on tape so I sprung for the DVDs. Things recorded on Beta make fair DVDs, Things recorded on VHS aren't worth transferring.

Have y'all come up with a better way to view 1080i channels? My strongest channel is broadcasted in that format so it's coming in at 85/85% quality and strength, but it's still jerky. I thought it would be the video card, but I am definitely leaning towards the tuner after I recently upgraded my video card. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Second question... I hooked up the cable in my apartment for giggles and grins, and sure enough I've been receiving cable for free and didnt' know it. :-) So... with that said, I added the extra 80 channels, but I'm having a hard time with it working with both sources. Also... just to clarify, I should not be able to record with say the analog tuner while watching the ATSC stuff right... it's one basic tuner. The reason I ask is that Vista is supposedly going to be able to separate the two according to Hauppauge.

O.k. so I tried it last night. I recorded one show while watching another. Hummm... well it was interesting. The analog cable show I watched live and it didn't have a problem, but the ATSC came out unusual. Almost as if it couldn't handle the amount of information. It didn't stutter nor did it really glitch, but the sound was a little out of sync and the video had this weird refresh go across it every 10-15 seconds. It wasn't a jagged and over-bearing disruption, but at the same time very noticable. I'll try it the other way (watch ATSC while recording Cable) later on.

What's the best settings for the analog side of this card? What is the highest bitrate... ie what rate to record at to maintain the highest fidelity, etc? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I think this might be a symptom called "tearing". Changing refresh rates sometimes helps.

Medium is usually suitable for analog TV channels. Capturing higher quality sources might benefit from the High setting.

The author of an article on Tom's Hardware indicated that an X1900 is suggested for smooth 1080i playback. http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/...17374.html
Actually HD playback is just plain hard. That's why I went with a hardware card for playback (MyHD).

How would I determine what's causing the problem video card or something else. I was curious if it might be linked to the Hauppauge card or drivers OR the video card. Supposedly the video card can handle it without a problem, but I have no real way of testing it I guess. It could also be the station that is broadcasting (quality, special formating of some sort). I don't know. Signal strength and quality for that channel are typically between 85-90% so I'm assuming that should be enough to show crystal clear. With that said, even a recording cannot play back smoothly.
