Here's the details: GBPVR release 0.99.12, dyndns.org account, DeeEnEs to keep dynamic ip updated, ports 7647 -7648 forwarded to mygbpvrserverip in router.

I can bring up EWA over LAN via http://mygbpvrserverip:7647/gbpvr/, can ping the dyndns host from my other machines but I cannot access EWA from outside, just times out. Firewall is turned completely off on GBPVRServer box.

The really sad thing is the wife was just starting to REALLY like GBPVR and when I told her she could schedule recordings over the web she says "this is the coolest thing ever!" ... and of course now I can't make it work...Any assistance greatly appreciated!

I think you hit all the steps but just to make sure:
You have an account at dyndns that maps a name to your IP address of your cable or DSL or whatever modem. Not of an internal LAN IP and the Dyndns tool has a green check saying it's updated.

Then you have opened up on your router for TCP, port 7647 and mapped it to your local pvr machine on your local LAN.
Then you have typed in
http://(dyndns name):7647/gbpvr/login.aspx
and it times out?

Are you sure you forwarded the ports correctly: 7647 tcp > 7647. (no typo's Smile )
Have you tried access from outside lan to your wan-ip?
e.g.: 123.123.123.111:7647/gbpvr/guide.aspx

Pastro, yep..you got it. Htv, I have tried the ip address itself and same result, timeout. I've even released and renewed the ip addresses, got a new dynamic addy from ISP and DeeEnEs recognized and updated dyndns successfully. Again I can ping my ipaddress, can ping the dyndns host but cannot get to EWA. Man, I hate computers sometimes.

Btw, router is a Linksys BEFSR41v2.1 so it's pretty old in Internet years. I've double checked the port forwarding and everything looks good.

Maybe the firewall in the modem-router?

is mygbpvrserverip the name that you have on dyndns, or a local LAN name, or local IP number?
If it is the dyndns name you are forwarding through your router, if it's a local address then you're not.

Make sure the Windows Firewall is either disabled or you have the ports open on that as well on the GBPVR server....there have been numerous cases where it was disabled and then via some system change gets re-enabled.....

Also...simply check to make sure you are getting through using this port checker.

HtV - Could be, I have a Westell Wirespeed DSL modem and I seem to remember it can act as a router..I'll have to call my ISP to check on that one.

Pastro - mygbpvrserverip is the Local LAN ip of by GBPVR server

UJB - thanks for the port checker (and DeeEnEs). As you suspected my ports are not open. Now the question is how to get them open. I've upgraded the firmware on my router and checked/rechecked the forwarding but obviously the ports are still not open. Have rechecked also to ensure firewall is off on GBPVR server.

BTW, thanks for what appears to be a very slick addition to GBPVR. Just using EWA over my local LAN is driving me to distraction to solve this puzzel. That and the fact that my wife might actually forgive me for the hours spent on learning all the great stuff you guys have built if I get this up and running.

I think you guys are on to the problem. What model Wirespeed is it?
