I get background screen updates visible as flashes of activity when GBPVR is running in VMR9 fullscreen exclusive mode.

For example, I can browse to YouTube and start a video running. I start GBPVR running in VMR9 Fullscreen Exclusive and blobs of the video poke through GBPVR and flash on screen.

I don't get this with VMR9 Custom.

In summary, VMR9 exclusive is less exclusive than VMR9 custom Wink

I don't mind. I'll just carry on using VMR9 custom.

Cheers

Yeah, these are just things you'll need to live with if you want to use the fullscreen exclusive mode. Not a bit concern for people on dedicated setups, since you're unlikely to need to run other apps in the background (and can set task bar to auto hide etc).

The fullscreen exclusive mode does have the avantage of the video card being able to draw video frames to the screen during the vertical refresh interval of the video card, meaning no tearing, which is a common problem for nvidia owners.

Sub - any ideas on the problem I'm having (posted in another thread) using FSE and hibernate? I think what's happening is that GB-PVR is losing focus when my computer wakes up in the middle of the night to do a EPG update, then I can't get it back next time I want to use it.

I cant say I've actually tried this. I'll take a look when I get a chance.

I also get both problems - bits of the taskbar (and apps launching in the background, eg. XML-TV updates) regularly blinking through, and fullscreen not recovering from loosing focus, including resuming from hibernation.

For a), I'm guessing the window isn't set topmost?

On the plus side, video is MUCH smoother on my system using FSE; general playback, and also when bringing up the HUDs which used to cause severe regular jerks until they vanished again - and tearing is gone. It's also alleviated an audio sync problem I was getting over the last few months and haven't been able to isolate. My hunch was that the CPU spike when starting a video was causing audio to run a little behind, and that then gradually got worse over time. FSE is definitely the way to go.

Small request, can volume adjustments only show the bar graphics, not the entire HUD? I often ride the volume, and having the HUD obscure the frame each time is a pain.

You might want to try StartGBPVR (Wiki entry here), which is designed to help fix the loss of focus problem.

I don't think it will help with this particular problem. Once FSE looses focus on my system, it never recovers even when you manually return the focus to it.

Yes that's right. We've been discussing this problem in more detail on this thread where sub's been trying various fixes:
