Got a recording failed message. Scanned all the gbpvr logs to see what happened but no messages around the time of the recording. Finally worked out that because of strange data in my XML file, two programs were on at the same time on the same channel, one of which I wanted to record. I am guessing that gbpvr couldn't work out what to do and didn't record anything.

But shouldn't there be something in the logs to say why?

Anybody with any ideas?

Thanks

If a recording is shown as 'failed' in the recordings screen, this typically means the recording service was not running at the time of the recording, or the machine was switched off.

Might explain why there were no logs. But since the machine is never switched off for some reason the gbpvr recording service must have stopped without my knowledge. Will check

If the recording service has died for any reason there should be a termination message in the recording service log, or in the Windows Event Viewer.

Nothing in the recording service log on the Windows Event viewer. But examination of the gbpvr log (not sure which one) shows activity from (in my case) from 3/6/03 up till about 2am on 3/7. Then there is a large gap in the log until 10:30am 3/7. The recording was scheduled for 6am on 3/7.

Windows even viewer shows gbpvr starting recording service at about 10am and recording a show at 11am but nothing to indicate that it had shutdown.

This PC is always on - can't work out why the recording service would have shut down and started itself with interaction.

It would actually note in the Windows Event Viewer if a service stopped or started. You absolutely positive the machine was running at the time?

Another thing that can cause it is changing the date temporarily on the PC to a future date. If the recording service finds any pending recordings for a date in the past, then there status is changed to 'failed'. After moving the PC date back to the correct date they'll still be marked as failed.
