Show analyzer help request

I'm one of the unfortunate who can't figure out Comskip...

So I tried the idiot proof Show analyzer and I guess its not idiot proof cause I can't get it to work right.

I'm using SA with GB-PVR 99.12, Trail Mode for now, I downloaded the latest SA install file and installed it, then I used the "New to Show Analyzer" thread and followed the instructions:

If I read this corretly then the files I have to down load are EvilMPASource & Mpegdecoder. Right?

I un zipped them into the SA install directory.

I went into the GB-PVR config and under the processing tab set SA as the "Comercial skipping" program and checked off "Run during recording instead of after recording".

What else do I need to do?

I tested this twice, once I started GB-PVR start recording after the show had started and SA seemed to be doing its thing, The second time I tried to set up GB-PVR to record on a schedule. Once again SA was up and running. Yet both times I checked the mpg file and all the commercials were still there.

Running SA wont remove your commercials. All it does is create a text file identifying the locations where it thinks the commercials are. GB-PVR can use that text file to jump over those parts of video during playback - but they're still there as part of the .MPG file.

OK so now I'm confused.... Why would I use this Plugin if I end up retaining the commercials? Really, I was under the impression that GP-PVR would stop recording at comercial detection and then restart again.

No, it doesnt do anything like that. As I said above, all it does is create a text file identifying the locations where it thinks the commercials are.

That said, some people have rigged up their own post-processing schemes to feed those text files into other apps to cut the commercials out of the files. In my book though, commercial detection isnt reliable enough to do that.

because when you watch the recordings GB-PVR will automatically jump the commercials. I love it automatically jumping the commericals during playback - wife loves it too.

so when you watch a recording it skips the commercials automaticaly... sub said it better

that would be tough to do:p stuff like that is usually done in a postprocessing file where you have a program which goes through and rerads the commercial points and cuts them from the recording

comclean does this (using the comskip output), but the way it does it is not very good for playback, it mames the timestamps and such, so it usually results in unacceptable playback (random jumps around show, etc).

if you were to want to transcode the recordings then comclean would be fine, you would have to run comclean, then transcode to the format you wish.

Well thats an eye opener, I use my Happauge Media MVP for Playback, not GB-PVR due to my low system specs, the Happauge Media MVP takes the load off the system. I was also planning on Backing most of my records to a DVD and wanted to reduce as much "waste" as possible (all I've really recorded so far is Kids stuff: Dora, Go Diego and such.) I was told I could use videoredo on the files - another $50 bucks and then $10 more if I buy SA. I'll have to sell some stuff on ebay so I can get money for these apps:o
