This is really great stuff guys. Very clear. I'm thinking of starting a wiki page...

For myself, I was wondering if someone could make available small dvr-ms and ts clips so I can test the different multiplexing options...

And it looks like I might be getting over the air HD, so I might be moving a PVR150 out in favour of a 1600..

Oh Is the analog side of the 1600 any better or worse than the PVR 150?

I haven't noticed any difference between the PVR150 and the HVR1600 as far as the analogue recordings are concerned. Both are fed from my analogue cable and seem to record equally well.

Do you still need an off the air ATSC clip?

I have a few short clips ( .ts format) I was using to try and get a downconverted file to play on my MVP equipped standard definition TV.

I swapped out one PVR150 for an HVR1600 recently, and I do see a little difference in the analog tuner picture, with analog cable. My PVR150's have always been a little whitish and low contrast. The HVR1600 analog picture is darker with better contrast, more like the TV tuner, which I think is better. I've also noticed a difference in that the PVR150's lost quality on the higher cable channels (highest is Comedy Central on 77) and there was some "snow". The HVR1600 does not do this, 77 is as clear as 2.

As far as ATSC, I get about 7 channels OTA, with an antenna in the attic, but only one very strong (~7 miles) the rest are ~40 miles (Boston). Thinking I need a preamp. I've been messing around for a while but still have not been able to do much with the recordings. I've had better luck with DVR-MS playing on the computer (which is not beefy), but I really want to convert to MPG for the MVP. I know this is not the object of OTA HD digital, but I really just want another tuner. Big Grin

Of the 7 channels that I can record, in DVR-MS, only a few will play both audio and video on the computer. Some only audio with black screen. I'm trying to determine if this is a result of the recording (signal strength) or a function of the different formats of broadcast signal and/or muxer. I'm using the cyberlink mux. Some of the recordings that don't play on the computer will transcode to MPG and play.

I also haven't had much luck transcoding to MPG for the MVP. Best result is using -target ntsc-svcd (suggested by dgeezer I think) but almost always the audio and video are out of sync. I think this may be, in part, a result of a low signal, which causes a jumpy recording. I've set UsePsiParser to false, as suggested by sub, to allow recording without recording service lockup (I don't know what this does though).

Maybe I will try working with TS again.

Wow, that was long. I think a wiki page would be good, as it seems this card is taking over for the PVR150.
What, me worry?

Yah I'd lie to get a couple clips then. I might be able to get it working for on the fly transcoding to the MVP... I'll PM you...

This is from earlier in the forum, but does the TS Mux come with GB-PVR or is it something I should download? Thanks again sub, you do an amazing job.

Roy,

I have had good luck using ffmpeg and the setting "-target ntscdvd". However, I always open the files first in videoredo to cut commercials and then save them in mpg format with mp2 sound.

Also, any standard def ASTC shows that I record I simply run thru video redo to trim them and make sure that I have picked the save file option to convert the sound to mpeg. All of these have played back fine on the mvp.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Are you recording to DVR-MS or TS?

I am recording to a .ts file using the HDTV pump filter. I can't look at my config file for fear of disturbing the current recording of american Idol. My wife and daughter get rather grouchy if I miss one....

I always edit commercials out using videoredo. I then save the cut file as a mpg file making sure that the option to convert the audio to mpeg 256bits is showing.

Here is the actual batch file ( 2 lines) that I use to convert the resulting file to a dvd file which will play on my mvp attached to a 27" SDTV.

REM This command line converts the mpg produced by VideoRedo to a dvd compliant file 720x480 with mp2 audio.
"C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\Third Party\FFmpeg\ffmpeg.exe" -i %1 -target ntsc-dvd -acodec copy "%~dpn1_mvp.mpg"

Cahill84,
The TS mux should already be there, but you you need to have HDTV Pump installed to playback the recordings made with this option.

1GB DDR and 2x 160GB SATA HDD
ATI Radeon X1650Pro AGP 8x 512MB DDR

Cox Analog Cable and OTA ATSC

I was able to record with TS mux, but I set up the post processing to convert it to mpeg, before I tried other options... nothing happened. I thought that I had done something wrong so I tried recording another show from 2:30-3:300 and changed it from asap to 3:00-4:00 post processing.... no go. The file is still in the ts format, what am I missing here?
