I've been pondering the thought of why I should record TV shows at higher than "low" quality. Think about it, low quality is 352 X 480. S-video quality is 480 X 480. Now if regular broadcast tv is only s-video resolution at best, why record at dvd quality? The only reason I can think of is so that you can author a dvd with "dvd" video. Which brings me to my next point. Does it really make sense to record a one hour show, author it for another hour and then burn it? I still haven't found a good/simplistic/simple program to save my 352x480 (half D1) video directly to dvd and add menu/chapters. Although I do have a quick remedy [Image: smile.gif]  I just burn the MPG's to DVD and play them back on my mvp using GB-PVR.

That doesn't seams correct. Where have you found those figures? I thought s-vide was a communication protocol that actually doesn't puts any (practical) limits on the resolution. Could you be kind to post some reference links?

I'm not sure, but I think there is a common mixup between s-video (somtimes denoted s-vhs for some reason) and "super vhs" (also denoted s-vhs sometimes). The first one is as I understand it the cable or communications protocol, while super vhs is an image(/sound?) quality standard (which has a resolution of about 400 lines) There are a number of sites out there covering this. One that talks about super vhs is Super VHS Information
I'm not always right

Yes, that's true. And I guess that will ever change since I can read both super-video and s-vhs on various cables in all the big electronic shops in sweden. If not even the stores can get it right, how can we ever hope mr Doe to get it?

I thought however that he had seen any specs on s-video that I've forseen.

S-Video is a source of input, and not a resolution format. To get best quality, I often record at 720/480 through S-Video from my cable box. It is slightly cleaner than through the included tuner.

I've been looking for this web page on standard tv resolution. Take a look at the following link. It will give you some interesting info [Image: smile.gif]

Perhaps it is getting confused with SVCD which by it's standard is 480x480, and Mpeg2. And does look VERY good. I was thinking of changing to that, but If I leave it at 704x480 (Older Hauppauge card) it is DVD standard, and imports without re-encoding.
3x MVPs (not used anymore)
XBMC
Hauppauge 150 via SVideo
Comcast Digital Cable
Motorola HD Cable box channel changed via Firewire
Vista Home Premium with RDP hack
AMD Athalon 64 5000+
340gig sata, plus 80SATA+3x160IDE Drives in XP machine for storage.
